On January 13th 2021 my mum died and passed to a better world. I hadn’t seen her in months due to care home closure. I called twice daily as she sunk into depression. I couldn’t go to her funeral due to lockdown of 🏴 borders. My love to you who went through the same agony as me.
Tonight was ‘Yaldā Night’, an ancient winter solstice festival celebrated in Iran.
One of the traditions is entertaining guests with an after dinner anecdote to inspire meaningful conversations.
Tonight I hosted some Ipswich folk and told them about the first time I visited Suffolk. It was March 2nd 1985 when I came to watch @IpswichTown at Portman Road. They beat Chelsea 2-0. Kevin Wilson scored the first goal that day.
Because of his thick moustache, I actually believed my father when he insisted Kevin Wilson’s mother was Iranian and hailed from a village called Doolab (translation “Penis Water”). This led to a poster of him appearing on my wall in 1986 as ‘Keyvan Wilson’ and a belief he was on the verge of a call up for #TeamMelli by Iran’s most successful manager, Heshmat Mohajerani.
So I was thrilled when I learned @ChelseaFC bought Kevin Wilson in time for the 87/88 season. It led to immediate relegation. There was no internet those days so it wasn’t until 1990 that I discovered Kevin wasn’t Iranian at all. He was born in Banbury and somehow played for N. Ireland on 42 occasions.
“Disappointingly dull anecdote but at least it was true” said one of my guests.
Some Yalda music 🎶 to save this tweet and of course a pic of Kevin ⬇️
I will be by your side as you have been all my life ❤️ This treatment is going to tough but nobody is as tough as you ❤️ We are all with you Mum ❤️

Strictly Come Dancing 2023 Finalists!
Overwhelmed & grateful to everyone who voted. This Strictly journey has exceeded both our expectations. That Semi-Final was just magical. Literally everything we hoped and dreamed of. Thanks so much to our supporters. Bring on the final! 🪩
A lovely couple helped me when I fell. They got me a cup of tea and brought me home. Thank you to them and the lovely Scottish nurse who put my arm in plaster when all the other ‘plasterers’ had gone home
Being from the generation amazed by ‘the moon walk’ this new weight-shifting, gliding illusionary footwork nearly broke my neck and horrendously tangled up my undercarriage when I tried it this afternoon ⬇️
Happy 90th Birthday Dr Krishnan Guru-Murthy! He's at work today as usual, in the NHS, where he must surely by now be the longest serving Consultant Radiologist on record. He became an NHS doctor when he arrived in the UK in 1962 and was made a consultant in the early 1970s. Here are a few photos of Dad - the most recent I have with my Mum recently and the oldest I have when they got married, and a few in between with my brother and sister. We don't have any from when he was a boy because he was orphaned young and the family lost everything as refugees in the war anyway. He's a remarkable man - and we're all very grateful for him still being around to dispense his wit and kindness to us, his grandchildren and everyone.
On Friday 10th Nov, a little munchkin called Mabel was born. Just over 3 weeks earlier than expected. Weighing in at a whooping 4lbs 4 ounces.
As for the parents, well, we're delirious with lack of sleep but most importantly love. She's like an out of this world being. 🌎♥️
There are no words to describe the pain we are feeling or how much we loved you Dave xx RIP XX
You helped everyone see the true lovable nature of Rotties.
We were blessed to have you for 12and a half years xx💔💔🐾
