The PM listed 5 things they'll do to "protect the cost of living". Most just reiteratedexisting situation, the new thing, as expected was £53m to help vulnerable with home heating oil costs. We'll starting digging into that ASAP. Will update here when I know more.

NEW As Number 11 petrol summit starts, petrol prices rise to 18 month high, 8p up to 141p… Diesel up almost 17p to 159p a litre since conflict started… according to RAC which says the “speed at which drivers are feeling the effects” mean they want to be treated fairly

By the way, on Monday we enter last 9 House of Commons sitting days useful window for a Defence Investment Plan release. If not in those 9 days, probably jump straight to May at earliest, not before Scotland election has passed. Then Parliament goes into recess again on May 21

Interesting & good to see @Ed_Miliband writing to the home heating oil & LPG industry. It reads like a ‘play fair or we’ll do a CMA investigation’. The hikes are concerning, and especially the cases you’ve reported to me that some firms are cancelling orders to get people to rebook at higher prices, which if backed up, is out of order

We are continuing to take action to protect lives. We are strengthening our defensive operations in the Middle East by sending four additional Typhoon jets to join our squadron in Qatar, and Wildcat Helicopters with anti-drone capabilities are arriving in Cyprus tomorrow. Protecting lives and delivering in the national interest.

Has the public opinion in favor of spending more on defence grown loud enough yet...? Because it seems to be getting pretty vocal, but still no action from those who should back their own speeches up with facts.

Lots of people messaging me saying octopus has added early exit fees to their fixes. Yes that seems to be a policy change. It's fixes were never that competitive compared to open market, but that (as well as service) was its big sell. It is of course only for new not existing fixes. The market is in turmoil there are very few cheap fixes left so ultimately this may be a defensive move to keep it's fix relatively (definitely not absolutely) lower. To be fair all companies are playing with their now, mostly paltry, offerings. The market is all over the place.
