@EsotericCD Instead I might ask: Will George Clinton and James Fauntleroy come do features if you *don't* give them writing credits? Will Thundercat spend a year making a record with you if he *doesn't* get writing credit?

@EsotericCD re: Kendrick- Hip-Hop has been fundamentally collaborative, back since its inception. And re: both Taylor and Kendrick, a writing credit can mean a wider range of contributions than it used to. I would not necessarily read into it that these artists *need* all the writers.

Jeff Blehar is *BOX OFFICE POISON*
This same - entirely valid - complaint applies in equal measure to Taylor Swift, and there's a conspiracy not to mention it. She is *half* a songwriter - the less impressive half, her utterly mundane lyrics - at best. I'm sorry, but if you need pros to write your hit MUSIC - the beats, the hooks, the things that *make* a hit - you're a pop idol, not a songwriter. Even if you're making hip-hop, the ethos is the same: You are not self-contained.

On the left is how many people Kendrick Lamar needs to write a song. On the right is how many people Billy Joel needs to write a song. Enough said.

Fuck it: I think I’m going to finally break my longstanding boycott of TV shows. I’m definitely gonna try to finish The Sopranos and watch Twin Peaks, but what else do you recommend? Please have them be not too long and very manageable

Pet Owners: It’s time that we make pet food a little bit cheaper. This week, I introduced new legislation to get rid of the sales tax every time you buy pet food.

@zachdcarter Everyone I work for is making their songs for real. Everyone my colleagues work for is also making their songs for real.

@zachdcarter I believe it happens, 100%. But I can also say with near-certainty it's not infiltrating the major centers of the professional music industry.

An engineer at a DC area recording studio told me that bands are showing up with AI-written songs and paying to record them so they don't sound so AI-ish. I think that's basically the end of civilization, but I also don't trust the search results. x.com/TheStalwart/st…
Joe Weisenthal@TheStalwart

The critics who talk about LLM's hallucination problem are, IME, completely correct. Other than for coding, I just use the chatbots as glorified search engines, and I don't think you should trust a word they say if you can't find a link to back it up.

Speaker Johnson must immediately reconvene the House to vote on a war powers resolution. It’s beyond clear we are at war. The Speaker's legacy will be that he made Congress so irrelevant that a president can threaten to wipe out a civilization while Congress is on vacation.

This is how Trump got elected the first time. But Democrats need to think long and hard about how he got elected the second. The reality is the Biden Administration SHOULD have modeled responsible problem solving as a contrast to what Trump was. But it didn't.
John Poor@AttorneyJPo

@dilanesper Voters thought that a reality TV boss was a real boss, and that being an influencer was the same as analyzing and understanding complex problems.

@AlecMacGillis Gotta say, I bought a new Corolla Hybrid, payments are *well* under that average. People might want more car than that but very few people *need* more car than that. There's no reason to spend $40k-$50k on a vehicle if you can't afford it.

@sunnyright The SAVE Act, if passed into law, is very obviously going to be selectively enforced, with partisan aims.

I'd love to see the SAVE Act passed, because even one illegal vote is too many. But I'm concerned that far too many Republicans are operating on the delusion that the reason they lose elections is because of illegal votes, and that they'll totally be fine in November if they just make sure only citizens vote. Which is nonsense.

@ajlamesa Yes, but, at least in NYC, my local precinct has no interest in enforcement. My council member doesn't treat it as a priority (staffers have said this over the phone). My state assembly rep acknowledges the problem and has at least co-sponsored the Super Speeders bill.

Absolutely. Tinted windows, license plate covers, and modified exhausts are low-hanging fruit for enforcement. Almost certainly drivers who are also speeding, running red lights, uninsured, or engaging in various traffic crimes.
Courtney Helland@CourtneyHella

@ajlamesa Also tinted windows! It’s such low hanging fruit. Easy to spot. Just: see it? Ticket. Should be a no brainer.
