@Drumslinger Indeed Mr Slinger. I came up to Edinburgh in ‘87 and stayed with Steve for the festival. Lovely to be back in touch with him recently.

@GraemeAThomson @guardianculture @guardianmusic I’m still shocked and hugely saddened at Karl’s death. I saw him several times with my beloved early Waterboys and World Party. With the former his immense contribution slipped under the radar, perhaps only after he left was it fully recognised. 1/2

In 1964, 122 students arrived at our University for the very first academic year. Now, sixty years later it's amazing to look back at how our beautiful, vibrant campus has developed. We love this shot of the @UniEssexLibrary during its construction.

@GraemeAThomson One thing I’d completely overlooked in the review was the review of the T&C gig. Del Amitri supported that night, Sinead O’Connor made her London debut and I was in the front row. It was a terrific gig!

@Drumslinger @GraemeAThomson I can still listen, wide-eyed, to those three albums, the APF Peel session, Brittania Row et al and be utterly blown away.

@jonlinscott @GraemeAThomson Totally understandable imo. I know folks who bailed out at FB and never came back on board. I hung around for another 30 years before throwing the towel in. Fun while it lasted though..mostly.

@Drumslinger @GraemeAThomson I obsessed over every Mike Scott output from the early steps, thru DNV, Red & The Black, to APF & Funhouse. The first 3 WB records were divine: a writer at the height of his powers. I tried to love FB but the shift in style was too great for me.

@GraemeAThomson I guess it was the contrast between “Rags”, “Moon” etc and what they then showed up with on the Tube. Mind you, they’d been hanging about with We Free Kings a lot in 86/87. I’ve never been much of a Pogues fan tbh.
