My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces): I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept): Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

Better Auth (@better_auth) is a comprehensive authentication framework for TypeScript that helps you roll your own auth from simple flows to enterprise-grade systems directly on your own database, embedded in your backend. ycombinator.com/launches/NUm-b… Congrats on the launch, @bekacru + @KinfishT!

Let’s take AI predictions from blog posts, podcasts and tweets and move them to betting markets, our state of the art in truth. My struggle has been coming up with good, concrete, resolvable predicates. Ideally, predicates related to industry metrics and macroeconomics. Eg naively one might think GDP but I’m not super sure that works great (eg see “productivity paradox”). I also think evals are not amazing predicates because we see over and over that they are incomplete and hackable.

@sama so 4.5 is an analytical idealist? crazy to think that llms could play a crucial role in making idealism mainstream

You could build up an entire lifetime with the hours I've lost trying to trace code that uses the repository pattern

how is everyone ensuring a dependency across their whole monorepo is the same version? only thing that's worked for me is `overrides` in root and `*` in sub packages and then i've seen dedicated tools for this like `syncpack` but that's annoying

combine this with tests/linters/type-driven modeling to make it 10x less scary. i have a similar flow: i let cursor iterate by itself with a tight feedback loop, just need to make sure to review the diffs in tests/types as they are the source of truth, but pretty much “accept all” the rest. i then review the code before submitting the pr. “vibe coding” but with a tight feedback loop.

There's a new kind of coding I call "vibe coding", where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It's possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good. Also I just talk to Composer with SuperWhisper so I barely even touch the keyboard. I ask for the dumbest things like "decrease the padding on the sidebar by half" because I'm too lazy to find it. I "Accept All" always, I don't read the diffs anymore. When I get error messages I just copy paste them in with no comment, usually that fixes it. The code grows beyond my usual comprehension, I'd have to really read through it for a while. Sometimes the LLMs can't fix a bug so I just work around it or ask for random changes until it goes away. It's not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, but still quite amusing. I'm building a project or webapp, but it's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works.

Hot take: there are two root problems in JS. - npm's dependency treatment (and variants) - transpilers creating misdirection Remove them and you solve almost every reliability and DX problem. Just make TS the runtime, make hoisting mandatory, and move on.

No, we need a federal union of Europe We can't compete as tiny single nations with big geopolitical forces like US and China The problem is that the pragmatic people in Europe who want to build are now on the right, but they're the same people who are against the EU Meanwhile the left in Europe is pro-EU but they're fully infilitrated by climate change obsessed degrowthers who literally want commit economical suicide You don't have many pro-EU capitalists in Europe which is exactly what you need to compete globally @euaccofficial

@joseferben It's a complete wasm app in the browser, built with GoApp (go-app.dev). Our team is mostly systems & backend engineers. It turns out that strong systems engineers appreciate the challenge of frontend, but struggle with the JS ecosystem. This removes a variable.

"What if we got rid of React, and wrote our frontend in Go instead?" This is the result. End-to-end tracing for all your builds, in the terminal and in the browser; 100% otel-compatible. One codebase, one engineering team with end-to-end ownership. Our velocity has 10xed.
