@matthewhodg Particularly with Gatwick’s expansion now approved (subject to any legal challenges) and continued population growth in the BML commuter towns.
English

CARS is just about the most essential rail scheme south of London and yet it was quietly sidelined by the Johnson government. Really need this to get back on track to fully unlock the potential of the BML and all its connecting lines! #Echobox=1773945975" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mylondon.news/news/transport…

English

@trainfanmatt Sadly, not a new thing. That used to be my local line, we never had any luck getting the 1Bxx to stop additionally. The operator was also pretty rubbish at holding the stopper for those connections. Lots of factors at play though, tight unit turnarounds / lack of recovery etc
English

I honestly despise this sort of response to cancellations. Like it is acceptable for people to have to stand around waiting an extra hour, delaying their plans for the day, because train companies are incapable of running their scheduled services
NORTHERN 🚆@northernassist
@EthanAfro There is an hourly service for this journey.
English

@AndyBTravels @northern We used to have a ~0355 Airport train from Preston (ex Blackpool), admittedly not stopping at either Wigan or Bolton on the way, owing to station opening hours. That was the bees knees. First train is now some 90 minutes later…
English

The first @northern train from Bolton to Manchester Airport is at 05.54 arriving 06.31.
I do wonder if an earlier train to arrive 06.00 or earlier would work - maybe test market with a bus at 05.00 arriving 05.45.
Good for people starting work at 06.00 and make flights from 08.00 accessible rather than the current 08.30 flight timeline, assuming 2 hour check in.

@daveg Very few of these are new announcements / new high speed lines. Lots of the routes are already being built / exist anyway, this is more about service enhancements and smaller upgrades (some of which are already in planning, such as the direct Berlin - Rome service)
English

This is an irresponsible waste of half a trillion euros on the wrong plan.
European Commission@EU_Commission
We’re launching a bold plan to make high-speed rail the fastest, more sustainable way to travel across Europe by 2040. 🚆 It’s a concrete timeline to remove bottlenecks, unlock investment, and harmonise rail systems⬇️
English

@O_TTravels @1MacKinnon Pre-Covid, the ‘proper’ timetable had the 1Mxx fast London departing Glasgow at xx:40, and the 9Mxx West Mids departing at xx:00. Sadly, this has been considerably eroded and departures moved earlier. This increases overall journey times, as the timings south of PRE have remained
English

@1MacKinnon It is strange how it doesn't leave later, I'm not sure why that is. Although the faster service skips Penrith giving the slower service more of a gap
English

Unfortunately I don't have a login but apparently Avanti West Coast have been told they are unable to run several services from December including the super-fast 07:00 MAN-EUS service. Very keen to know who's made this appalling decision (even though it still has to run empty)

@nonstopeurotrip They are absolutely fantastic trains. A showcase to other manufacturers of what is possible out of a high speed EMU. Look forward to seeing Westbahn’s sets next year.
English

First up is this #SBB #IC2 service from #Zurich to #ArthGoldau onboard one of these fabulous Stadler Giruno EMUs 🚆🇨🇭 #SwissTravelPass #NonstopEurotrip

@seatsixtyone @driverbod125 I bloody love Regiojet, but PKP’s offer (non-Pendolino at least) can be unbelievably cheap right up to the day of travel too. Competition here, where prices are already relatively low, will be interesting to see play out.
English

@O_TTravels @lbmjason Absolutely. I worked onboard many Azuma runs which did LDS-KGX in under 2hrs, and on 3 occasions even did it as fast as 1hr 52-53ish.
This photo from 08/06/24 (a near perfect run) is our time from wheels turning at WKF to coming to a stand at KGX, under 1hr 39! Incredible stuff.

English

@lbmjason Wonder if it's possible to do it even quicker with the Azuma
English

@robbie_burgess @philatrail Interesting stuff - is this a relatively new change Robbie? I remember boarding a set that had arrived ex Doncaster depot a few years back, and it did seem a little bit ‘tight’ for the signal once the driver had changed ends
English

@philatrail ‘Platform 3 - Formations of 9 or 10 car class 80x cannot be planned to stop in the DOWN direction as there is no stop board, hence rear passenger doors will be beyond the usable length of the platform’ as quoted in the TPR’s on the Network Rail website.. networkrail.co.uk/industry-and-c…

@davwheat_ @RAIL It’s been no secret that the sets were to be reduced in length in advance of the December 2025 timetable change (for enhanced performance). I’m not sure what this article is trying to achieve by citing cost cuts.
English

@RAIL They already did this, and one ran in service on Sunday...?
It's for performance reasons, to more closely match that of an Azuma, rather than primarily cost.
English

@thomasforth Bloody hell. I remember them demolishing what was once there not so long ago, that looks splendid
English

@gomedia91 Superb design and would love to see it rolled out at pace, beats a simplistic green thing. But you make a very fair point, it doesn’t exactly blend in at Abergavenny!
English

While it's great to see a standardised accessible footbridge design that can be implemented across the network - in the case of Abergavenny, I would have preferred brick or local stone used to compliment the grade II listed station building, rather than industrial grey metal.

@AndyBTravels @northernassist There used to be a far earlier train (pre-0400) from Blackpool and Preston, alas it was fast from Preston to Piccadilly though
English

The first @northernassist train of the day from Bolton into Manchester is the 05.54 to Manchester Airport - quite a few passengers.
Wonder if there is a demand for an earlier train?
English

@O_TTravels WCML ‘two track’ times. So no overtaking, everything is pathed to simply follow each other. All trains during these periods have sufficient time for them to run on the slow lines, but with all the adjustments needed to cross back and forth between fast / slow at each junction
