The further away you get, the easier it is to see. We don't need to go to the Moon to know it, but it helps to be reminded.

Severe snowstorms have been hitting Mongolia all week. Temperatures are down to –48°C. Tragically people died, got injured and are missing. Some 5,000 livestock perished, causing a devastating economic blow to herder families' already fragile livelihoods. We are bracing for more severe snowstorms this weekend. Mongolian Red Cross is on the ground delivering help. The @IFRC works closely with @RedCrossmn to provide urgently needed humanitarian support. Our hearts go to people affected by this disaster and to Mongolian Red Cross staff and volunteers working around the clock. #DREFinAction #Localization Photo credit: Mongolian Red Cross

Last year alone, disasters affected over 146 million people. Both developed and developing countries are impacted by disasters. It’s the most vulnerable who are hit the hardest. The Disaster Law treaty, agreed by the UN last December, can change that by making sure everyone is protected in disasters. On this International Risk Reduction Day, the @IFRC strengthens the need on more investment on disaster risk reduction efforts. #DRRDay

One month after the devastating earhquake in Afghanistan, the @IFRC, @ARCSAfghanistan and partners continue to work intensively at the heart of the communities most affected to ensure critical needs are met. One month on, our collective impact has reached thousands with emergency relief, health services, and vital support. Yet, with only 31% of the CHF 25 million appeal funded, urgent support is needed. 👇bit.ly/4m2vN0e

A few weeks after a 6.0 earthquake struck southeastern Afghanistan, the @ARCSAfghanistan, supported by @IFRC, has reached 2,000 households in Kunar, Laghman, and Nangarhar with multipurpose cash assistance. This vital support not only helps families cover urgent needs like food, medicine, and shelter but also restores dignity by allowing them to decide what matters most.

In times of crisis, access to mental health support is essential. Hear from Sharifa, a female volunteer with @ARCSAfghanistan, who shares the distress she has witnessed while deployed in the earthquake-affected area and the support she has provided.

The response on the ground is at its full speed following the devastating Afghanistan earthquake. With IFRC support, 400 tents have reached Chawkay district. The sheer enormity of the devastation left by the earthquake is still only starting to emerge. To support the @ARCSAfghanistan immediate response, the @IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal. We call on donors and partners to meet the huge scale of the disaster. bit.ly/4m2vN0e

Humanitarian needs are huge. Volunteers had to walk between five and six hours to reach those who were wounded and then bring them back into the city centre. Hospitals were extremely overwhelmed. The @IFRC had supplies in Kabul which could be dispatched quickly, however it was a challenge to reach the most remote areas. This could become a protracted crisis for the next few months. Hear from @joysinghal, @IFRC acting Head of Delegation for Afghanistan, during yesterday's UN Geneva press briefing.

The last thing Afghanistan needed was another earthquake. @ifrc is supporting @ARCSAfghanistan to assess needs and prepare a response. Pre-positoned stocks are on their way. Local @ARCSAfghanistan teams are part of first response. Our thoughts are with all affected.
