The "popularity" of Marathon may have been astroturfed. Evidence from the leaked Discord thread shows they were allegedly paid $5 per main Reddit post and $3 per comment/reply. There is no confirmation yet whether this is true or not, but it could signal Bungie's desperation to combat the negative press the game is getting... because 19K off peak and barely over 40k on peak hours is not gonna be enough to sustain this game long term, due to the costs and budget of the game. Steam review manipulations have also occurred in the past with games like SKIBIDI BACKROOMS, Monsters Domain, Lonely Knight, and Blue Archive. But the disconnect between high steam reviews and the rapidly vanishing playerbase is real... and some people are saying that the positive Marathon reviews are allegedly coming from low-playtime accounts. Even recently, Bungie was accused of scrubbing negative feedback on the Xbox store, where the ratings jumped from ~2.5 to 4+ stars after negatives vanished...

There are a ton of people who would genuinely love marathon who aren’t playing it. It’s the only FPS MP game that’s grabbed me in many years and offers something actually unique in the space. I hope more people give it a try, it’s a fantastic game

dude i fucking wish marathon wasnt shrouded in controvercy before release. Universally all ACTUAL critics (not just the people who suck at fps games) have given the game an incredibly high review score and have said it scratches an itch many games dont.

@DestinLegarie Game is amazing. A year ago I didn't think I would play it at all. Here I am 2 weeks into launch with over 50 hours in. If I didn't have to work, it would be triple that amount, lol.

I’ve never been more happy to be wrong about Marathon. I think it’s a fun game you can play with sponsored kits solo and chill (like I do) or go sweats and dive into Cryo like I will someday. I’m only 12 hours in (a lot for me) but I find myself wanting to play more. GG Bungie

@BrianBuckWargo @MM_MBB_TV @CBSSports Just using common sense. It just doesn’t make sense to move around the times. You play at 12 Thursday you get 12 on Saturday. 2 Thursday = 2 Saturday etc. I forgot we don’t use common sense in 2026 though.

Day 1 of asking @MarathonDevTeam for Cryo Archives solo queue [and duos]; please don't alienate solo players. Solo Marathon feels good; would be cool to experience, discover, and succeed the pinnacle content as a solo, too. Also, I wonder how many players are solo, with 75+% of their raids queued as a solo (autofill off); players running as trios, with 75+% of their raids ran in a trio; players who are hybrid, the 25-75% of players who run both solo (autofill off) and trio queues.

Michigan also played the last game of the regular/championship season, and was put on the Thursday/Saturday slot and not F/Sun…
