If you want to understand how Mnangagwa’s regime is extremely cruel to Zimbabweans, look at how it treated Zimbabwean civil servants this week. Mnangagwa paid civil servants their wages, then the next day devalued the local currency, the ZIG, from R14 to the US Dollar to R25. This means a person who had ZIG25,000 now has ZIG14,000 in their pocket. These are criminal political elites stealing from the poor using the central bank. They lied to Zimbabweans, claiming the local currency was backed by gold. The price of gold has risen since the launch of the ZIG on April 5 this year, yet the value of the ZIG has decreased, halving people’s worth just like that! This demonstrates what we meant when we said that the local currency was worthless and that it was an instrument to steal public funds! Mnangagwa’s surrogates would have known about this rate devaluation before paying civil servants. They sold the US Dollar to each other using the old rate of 14, then they change the rate to 25 and they have doubled their wealth in US Dollars just like that, and they keep doing it! Meanwhile they have passed laws that businesses that they own can reject the worthless local currency, it is a mafia government with a Don at the apex! The tragedy is that they are not clever, so they keep using the same old tactics sadly making Zimbabweans more poorer with each daft decision they make! Sadly, Zimbabweans will be pushed into yet another rigged election because it suits these thieves and their surrogates!
