🚨 BREAKING: The much-awaited Swiss AI model is here! It's fully OPEN, transparent, and multilingual, built in compliance with Swiss data protection and copyright laws and the EU AI Act (!). Here's what you need to know: The name of the model is Apertus, which is Latin for “open.” It's called this way to highlight the fact that the entire development process (including its architecture, model weights, and training data) is openly accessible and fully documented. It is a fully national initiative (following the new 'AI nationalism' trend I've been discussing in my newsletter). It was built by the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre. Apertus is available in two sizes: 8 billion and 70 billion parameters. Both have been released under a permissive open-source license that allows for use in education, research, as well as commercial applications. Sike. Cursor is seeing churn due to cost. Anthropic and OpenAI can offer their models at discounted rates compared to the API. There is no world Cursor can compete with the Codex and Claude subs. Same for the Chinese Subs. Simply because they don't have a model yet. Cursor has a sufficient amount of bets placed on other parts of the stack, they have to move away from the version of Cursor people have in their heads.
