@LMFHistorian Tried applying for wildland jobs years ago. Had relevant experience, pre-training, everything necessary. Followed advice from multiple USFS offices I worked directly with. Not a peep.

At this point the feds oughta just take USAjobs offline. They have a new, nifty tool that matches your interest & experience with open jobs. Great! Apparently I match over 150. Awesome! I sort by ones that are hiring from the public, less than 30; the nearest on-base in Texas.

Has there been a single CEO of a large company that’s taken the lane of “fuck this shit, we’re not forcing AI down your throat. This shit is garbage and we want humans to interact with you, we actually want employees here”? Because I feel like the atmosphere is ripe for it.
Kristi Yamaguccimane@TheWapplehouse

These people see themselves as modern nobility; Silicon Valley governing you through a paternalistic technocracy. And much like the disparity between the insular nature of a royal court and its subjects, there could not be a wider gulf between their reality and yours.

@photoncmndr It would make a great Taskmaster bit to try and destroy a plane from the bathroom using only the tools within TSA regs.

One time I cut down on a pair of wire crimpers to go through TSA with exactly the tools I needed to go fix something for a customer. The gate agent that confiscated a tool prior was the same one that tried it a second time until I made him get a tape measure. He was visibly disappointed🤣 I then asked why a flathead screwdriver was allowed because it could actually kill someone but was under the length 🤦

@FunkyStickman Drove my '99 Saturn 80k mi til I could afford a truck. 165k miles total. Used it for commercial window washing. Carried ladders. Slept in it. Offroad driving. Burned oil like crazy but the engine bay was nice and spacious. Thing was a tank.

Not only do I remember when gas was under $1/gal, I remember when cars could get 40+ mpg without cylinder/engine shutoffs, EGR valves, etc. I had a '96 Saturn SL that got 40 mpg all day long. Crank windows, not even power steering.

@revenant_MMXX Tried finding an old image of "the chart" where they would compare education and lifetime earnings. Couldn't find anything dated to the 2000s. There would always be an enormous jump with a Bachelor's.

If you grew up in the '90s or '00s you were constantly hearing about it since grade school. They had us sit in assemblies in middle & high school telling us we all needed to go to college and corralling us to apply, or else we'd never find work. This is insane revisionism:
BoiltOwl@nealjclark1

College is expensive because every millenial INSISTED they get to go. The boomers spent a ton so they could go. This was not the case in the boomers day. They understood natural hierarchy and sorted themselves appropriately. Their big sin was liking their children too much.

@jamesonhaslam Use a PCP rifle for less recoil on the optic. Model with a picatinny rail. .25 cal drops rats even with a bad shot. Get an Amazon high pressure pump for it. Thermal optics will cost quite a bit, but make the job way easier. The Rattler V2 19-256 is enough for what you're doing.

What the actual F###. @amazon Not only are my delivery instructions specified and explicit, but the hilarity of signs plastered everywhere only reinforces said instructions... Based on that perfect delivery photo angle, this driver clearly knew what they were doing…

What people forget is that the mainstream Hipster, top knot era was born out of the recession. It was cope about everyone being poor after 08. "I like old stuff cuz I can't afford new stuff". 99% of Millenials spent every year from 96 through 08 like this:

The "millennial" impact of hipster, whisky, stomp clap, basically just coffee shop culture, was for like 5 years max. It didn't exist in 2010, and was completely gone by 2016. A rapid and unnatural push that everyone hated and was dumped the second Trump announced his campaign.

@OccamsBraiser When you live with Natives outside of the public eye, the traditional beliefs are actually to let things of the past decay and fade. You dont interact with ruins because that interrupts the process of them being erased. So these people are being hypocritically heretical.

The Trump Administration just bulldozed an 1000 year-old Native American site to build a border wall in Arizona. The carvings there were sacred to native tribes and had been undisturbed for a millennium.

A guy in my church works for DOT. I sat down with him one day and explained that when he's doing inspections, taped on info plus lots of sticky tape streaks combined with an Amazon trailer on a non Amazon truck is a sure way to find a problem. A few weeks later he told me that they did a big blitz and pulled a dozen Amazon trailer attached rigs off the road. Doing my little part where I can. 🫡

@SecDuffy can we start crack down on these trucks that have name and dot / name printed on paper taped to sides of semi trucks? We see this all the time.

@WatcherontheWeb @SomeBitchIIKnow The Salton Sea resource has been touted for years. They already have access to it with the geothermal plants out there. They just don't have the tech to seperate it from the brine economically.

That's... not really an issue with lithium mining anymore, once again due to american innovation, as far as I understand it Now it's a lot more like fracking. They shoot a slurry down into the deposit, it strips the lithium, the suck it back up and process the lithium out It's.... actually pretty dang neat. They are looking at doing the same thing under the Salton Sea after they also discovered vast lithium reserves there, and it's SUPPOSEDLY gentle enough it won't even disturb the .... already very distressed "lake" it will be mining under

@shagbark_hick I lived on a rez for five years. Make sure you get something that gives you the same rights as a tribal member. Access to land, sport/rec rights, employment preference, etc. AND make that part inheritable. It's an interesting proposition, but VERY dependent on the tribe.

Does anyone here have any experience with buying land adjacent to an Indian Reservation? I have an opportunity to buy an unlisted parcel that is within the SAA (Settlement Acquisition Area) near a reservation in NYS. This means the tribe wants the land. Apparently, if you own land within the SAA, this particular tribe will give you heritable, permanent occupancy rights in exchange for title -- and the land turns into "Indian Country" status, meaning tax-free, no building codes, etc. I'm tempted to buy the parcel just to see if this works. If it does, I could wind up living property-tax-free, building whatever I want. And sure, I don't own the land -- but if the contract they present looks solid and gets a decent lawyer's approval, it could be an ideal scenario. And I'll tell ya, if this works, tribes could obtain MASSIVE amounts of land very quickly if they prove they can respect occupancy rights of former owners. People are desperate for an escape from suffocating NYS taxes and codes.
