Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind. #BeKind

BEREA, Ohio (April 22, 2024) – The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission has learned that a text message-based scam, known as “smishing,” is fraudulently claiming to represent tolling agencies from across the country. The scammers are requesting payment for unpaid tolls. The targeted phone numbers seem to be chosen at random and are not uniquely associated with an account or usage of toll roads. Ohio Turnpike E-ZPass does not request payments by text. Collections of unpaid toll and/or toll violations does not occur by text. All links associated with Ohio Turnpike E-ZPass will include www.ezpassoh.comand ohioturnpike.org. The FBI, which is aware of the smishing scam impacting several states, recommends individuals who receive the fraudulent messages do the following: - File a complaint with the IC3, ic3.gov, and be sure to include: - The phone number from where the text originated. - The website listed within the text. - Check your account using the toll service’s legitimate website. - Contact the Ohio Turnpike’s E-ZPass customer service center at (440) 971-2222. - Delete any smishing texts received. If you clicked any link or provided your information, take efforts to secure your personal information and financial accounts. Dispute any unfamiliar charges. We encourage all customers to stay alert to these types of scams and to contact us at www.ezpassoh.comand ohioturnpike.org with any questions about Ohio Turnpike E-ZPass notifications.

NEW: Ex-convict John Phillip Lally ran towards gunfire to save the life of a police officer who was shot in a shootout The incident happened on Highway 59 in Texas during a gun fight between police & a carjacker. Lally, who found himself in the middle of the shootout, noticed that an officer was injured and immediately jumped into action, dragging him away from the line of fire to safety. Lally was able to record the entire incident on his phone (video below). "As soon as I jump out of the car there's gunshots going off. Then I looked to my left and saw that cop get shot," he said. The incident happened after police tried pulling over a suspect who stole a vehicle. After the suspect crashed, he got out and started shooting at police. One of the shots hit Officer J. Gibson in the leg. "That's when I grabbed that cop by his vest and dragged him all the way back to my work truck," Lally said. The shootout ended with officers killing the 19-year old suspect. Lally, who has a long criminal history, lives in Houston and is now a business owner and CEO of a T shirt company called Real Deal Wreckers. Hero.
