One thing I like about Tesla and SpaceX is that their messaging is always hopeful. They have never used climate change as a scare tactic—“If you don’t buy our cars, the planet will die!” When our backyard was showering ashes from the Bay Area fires, the news was full of climate change fears, but Tesla never took that opportunity to scare people into a zero-emission lifestyle. Instead, despite COVID difficulties, it remained hopeful with the first Model Y delivery. Many other companies have tried to scare people with climate change. Did they ever move the needle to save the planet? No. Instead, they pushed regulations so only their products could “save the planet” and force people to use them. The result was higher costs due to regulatory capture. My favorite Tesla livestream was Battery Day in 2020. Many people had just lost their houses to historic wildfires and COVID lockdowns. Yet people still attended, sitting inside their Teslas. Elon cheerfully took the stage to inspire everyone that the future is still bright. Fear is not the road to salvation. Hope is. The same tactic is now being used on AI. If the climate change campaigns of past decades are any historical lesson, fear and self-righteousness are not the answer.

People really need to learn what Dog Mode is. I ran into the grocery store for maybe 2 minutes with my pup. The car was on. Dog Mode was enabled. The screen literally said: “My pet is safe and comfy.” It also showed the inside temperature was 68°F. I walked back out to a guy screaming at me, cussing me out, and telling me he had already called animal control because I “left my dog in the car in the summer.” I appreciate people looking out for animals. I really do. But maybe take 5 seconds to read the giant screen before assuming the worst. Technology exists for a reason. My dog was smiling by the way…

@naval I think it has more to do with a parents passing as being a natural thing to happen. It’s not natural (therefore intolerable) to bury/burn your child.

When the Cybercab was unveiled 18 months ago, Tesla stock fell 10% to $217.80 Tesla haters like Fred Lambert cheered. Fast forward a year and a half and Cybercab is street legal, in production, and FSD has been operating unsupervised safely for months. Stock has ~doubled too.

@SawyerMerritt It's great, but tainted with the 10 years of empty promises. In fact, we're still not where they said we will be (lending our vehicles to the robotaxi fleet). Again, it's great, but tainted.

Think about this, the 7+ year old Teslas with AI3 that are now getting FSD V14 Lite have a more capable self-driving system than any brand-new non-Tesla car currently sold in North America. Pretty wild.
