Important #Jeopardy heads-up: If you're the kind of person who wants to avoid spoilers, I would strongly recommend waiting until after you've watched the #CelebrityJeopardy final tonight before you watch Season 2, Episode 5 of #PopCultureJeopardy.

TFW you just get home from work to see that one of your cats threw up into their water fountain and it overflowed all over the kitchen floor.

Hi friends, I'll be going home on Saturday, weak and weary, but better. Haven't been able to go through all of your prayers and well wishes, but Mr. Mason shared many with me. Again, my friends are wonderful, just best a girl could ask for. From my (very tired) heart, thank you.

@MrDanielBuck It’s not just the schools; the entire culture has become more permissive and forgiving under the guise of understanding the root causes of bad behavior. What started as a reasonable thing to do, ossified into an ideology and a problem unto itself.

Today my brother should have turned 35. I should’ve been calling him up, poking fun at him for being old and halfway to 40. Instead he never made it to 30. I’ll never understand why. Please pray for his soul and pray for me and our parents

@0Beanie05923291 Was it just staffing though? I lost my assistant years ago from staffing cuts. They also downsized my library in the most recent renovation. My budget hasn't gone up for years & last week I l found out it's cut for next year.

"If we're all about teaching kids literacy and math and raising them to become global citizens, the library is not the place to cut," the librarian said.” This was a quote from a school library who’s upset about staffing cuts. While I don’t want to see anyone lose their job, and I 100% believe it’s a school’s responsibility to teach literacy and math, I part ways with this librarian at “raising them (students) to become global citizens”. American public schools should be teaching and preparing students to be well-informed, active AMERICAN citizens who can engage with the global community. The library is definitely part of this process, but only if librarians are on board with the mission. P.S. Staffing cuts are inevitable for a lot of school districts in the near future. People should make sure their role is essential.

PD has dental surgery tomorrow. Because of his condition he can’t get regular dental work without being put under, and this will be full on extractions. Simultaneously I can’t wait for it and I’m dreading it. His teeth have been hurting him and the work needs to happen, but I just worry every time they have to anesthetize him

@rm041923 I've found the same. I teach 8th grade. I think I'm the first teacher to hold them to a deadline. I'd like to think I'm teaching them a skill that will be important in high school.

I passed out a page of sentences to translate today. Present tense. Simple vocab. Verbs we have been doing since October. I have a giant chart on my wall with every ending they need. Nobody had a reason to say they didn't understand. Then I watched. One kid found a ball. I took it. One wrote on my wall in Sharpie. A girl was on a phone that wasn't hers. Bring me the phone. It's not mine. Bring me the phone. But I wasn't on it. Another girl saw a boy leave his class across the quad, ran to my desk, asked to go to the bathroom, and was out the door before I could answer her. The bell rang. Most weren't done. By tomorrow, there will be ten thousand excuses. I have heard every one of them. The world charges for missed deadlines. Rent is due on the first. The filing deadline does not move because you had a baseball game. I'm the bad guy for holding them accountable now, while it's just a grade in Spanish class. stillatthedoor.substack.com/p/deadlines-ma…

@jenteach13 6th grader asked for bathroom while I was setting up. I said one second & he left anyway. Like, make eye contact? My gang gets one day to submit beyond our final in-class working day this week. Then the list of who has a working lunch comes out the following morning.

Mansplaining is a hard topic because men need to gauge how much the woman knows. A man explaining something you know more about, normally smugly? Awful. A man explaining something he knows way more about with passion. Hot. Hot. HOT.
