@ginadavidsonlbc @boswelltoday @LBC But it is very pertinent to the fact that closing concerns down meant Murrell was able to continue with his criminal career. If this were any other issue there would be an outcry that legitimate concerns were not investigated. Fact the concerns were raised at all is relevant.

John Swinney has been answering more questions on the Peter Murrell case today - @LBC asked why warnings raised by NEC members were shut down, prompting resignations - “these issues are in the past”. Also says he won’t be listening to what Keir Starmer has to say on this.

@boswelltoday Should it not be Minister promoting victimisation. That’s certainly what she does re gender critical people. Standing under a decapitate TERFs sign hardly demonstrates support for victims.

Minister for Victims. Kirsten Oswald. After all that has now come out about the SNP’s finances, that appointment is beyond parody. The party members, donors and voters treated like mugs deserve answers. Instead, the SNP hands one of its senior machine politicians a ministerial car. Fire her.

@boswelltoday Too much focus has been on the spousal relationship which she is trying to distance herself from. Surely the pertinent issue is the fact she was also an office bearer. As was Beattie. They signed off the accounts. Smacks of a cover particularly as she shut down questions.

Now that Murrell has admitted embezzling SNP funds, the idea that the Sturgeon and Beattie strands can simply stay neatly boxed away feels absurd. A party machine does not misplace hundreds of thousands of pounds in a broom cupboard. Reopen it. Review it. Explain it.

@Scott_Wortley Surely much better to use a lawyer who specialises in self aggrandisement by alighting on whatever cause is likely to get their name in the public domain.

It ised to be traditional for those engaged in reputation management via lawyers to use lawyers that specialise in reputation management.

@LucyHunterB And Kirsten Oswald is the Minister for inter alia victims. Given this and her attitude to women’s rights it seems she is creating victims rather than supporting them.

A member of the Sturgeon squad is saying that only SNP members have an interest here. But when a number of brave, decent ex-SNP NEC members were pushed out of politics, in part over this, and Kirsten Oswald, on the pushing side, is a government minister, it's everyone's business.

This is my favourite Murrell purchase - £150 for a Folio Society edition of Hannah Arendt’s - The Origins of Totalitarianism. (Normal person’s edition about £15). I wonder if someone found it under their Xmas tree along with a Montblanc pen and some Mac lipstick 💄 sorry, it was £160 for the fancy edition

To save replying to all those complaining that linking Sturgeon to Murrell’s embezzlement is “misogyny” a reminder that she was not only his wife. She was his boss and as long time leader of the SNP she had ultimate responsibility for its governance and oversight.

@DalgetySusan Also she and Beattie were office bearers and had duty to scrutinise the accounts. There seems to be some dereliction of duty at play here.

@SVPhillimore Maybe Gavarelli should put herself in the place of the women in changing rooms and hospitals who have been intimidated by men with intact genitalia in their spaces. Or athletes who have lost out to male cheats masquerading as women.

@levstar1999 @murdo_fraser Fact she was his wife not the point. She and Beattie were office bearers. As such had duties to scrutinise the accounts. They appear to have failed to do so therefore in dereliction of duty.

@euanmccolm The spousal relationship is pretty irrelevant. It is the fact she and Beattie were office bearers. As such they had a duty to scrutinise the accounts. Failure to do so is dereliction of duty. This aspect is never raised.

@GarethHarper1 @Neilsocialist But should not have been easy to hide from competent office bearers. She and Beattie had duty to scrutinise the accounts as office bearers therefore in dereliction of duty if they did not do so. Or did they do so and were party to the cover up.

@Neilsocialist Currently FM is paid £182,000. CE of the SNP job was last advertised at £95,000 With almost 300K before tax coming in, it wouldn’t unusual for a Jag etc to appear in the driveway. He was pilfering at a rate of 33K a year. Rather sad I’d say, but yes easy to hide from your spouse.

How is it possible to embezzle such a huge amount of money from a political party led and controlled by your wife, whilst spending the money on cars, a campervan and all sorts of luxurious items with no questions asked by the same party leader and wife?

@Neilsocialist You would need to ask the accountants and auditors, both internal and external. The SNP doesn’t attract large donations or dark money so it should have been easy to spot. I don’t think you can blame the wife for her husband’s crimes. How often does you partner check your spending

@BronwynChat @Neilsocialist Because she was also an office bearer of the organisation and as such is a trustee and had duties to scrutinise the accounts. It is in that capacity she should have been asking questions as should Beattie. Dereliction of duty that they did not do so.

@Neilsocialist I don’t question my husband on what he earns / spends / invests etc because we’re married, I love him & I trust him. They both earned a good wage, she was busy running a country , why would she feel the need to question him?

@levstar1999 @murdo_fraser She was not just his wife but also along with Beattie, an office bearer. As such she had the duties that go along with that post and should have been asking questions in that capacity as should Beattie. Previous office bearers stood down because the accounts were not disclosed.

@murdo_fraser I trust my wife implicitly, do you not trust yours? It's the Treasurer that's accountable for the financial oversight. I recently bought a BMW is my wife responsible if I got it on the fiddle, naive maybe but not responsible.

Peter Murrell has now admitted to stealing the best part of half a million pounds from the SNP. Is it credible that his wife knew nothing of this? As Party leader, was she not curious? And if the SNP can steal from themselves, what are they capable of doing to the country?

@murdo_fraser @NatJack63982236 Extremely worrying that an ex First Minister and wife of the perpetrator don’t notice anything untoward especially with the amount of gifts, large purchases that were clearly more expensive that her husbands salary How can we be expected to trust Scottish Politicians after this?
