Overnight, Trump AG Pam Bondi nuked the Foreign Agents Registration Act. It is no longer enforcing criminal charges unless it involves espionage. This is a very bad idea and will embolden foreign governments secretly influencing the U.S. 1/9🧵

I thought I knew everything there was to know about "subway vigilante" Bernhard Goetz and the shooting that rocked 1980s NYC, but then I listened to the first episode of the new season of Fiasco. Highly, highly recommended:

Without the student debt forgiveness plan, the end of the loan forbearance period will subtract 0.1 percentage points from GDP growth, as I explained last week: nytimes.com/2023/06/21/bus…

On the left, Republican Senator Mike Lee feigns outrage during the State of the Union when President Biden suggests that some Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare. On the right, Mike Lee says he wants to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

John Williams Ntwali was a lifeline for many victims of human rights violations, and often the only journalist who dared report on issues of political repression. He joins a long list of people who have challenged the government and died in suspicious circumstances. #Rwanda @hrw

No institution in America has had more power with less journalistic scrutiny than SCOTUS. It's well past time for that to end. A clarifying call from @dicktofel, who also lays out exactly what that would look like. dicktofel.substack.com/p/time-for-rea…

Some news: I just got back from maternity leave and am thrilled to be joining the staff of @THECITYNY to continue Missing Them. With support from @BrownInstitute's Magic Grant, we'll be launching a new phase to examine the ripple effects of COVID-19 in New York's neighborhoods.

Amazon to ban the word "union" on its new worker chat app, per internal company documents leaked to me. Other banned terms include "living wage," "slave labor," "harassment" and "restrooms" theintercept.com/2022/04/04/ama…

This is the Ukrainian member of the @FoxNews crew. She was killed today alongside their cameraman. Fox News doesn’t even mention her in their report. (Photo published by Oksana Romaniuk of the Institute of Mass Information)

A thing you should know: Scott Stewart, who today will argue that the U.S. Supreme Court should overturn Roe v. Wade, was the Trump administration's top lawyer defending family separations in federal court.

The first time I was pregnant, I found out really early before there was a heartbeat. The pregnancy was unexpected. If I'd had to make up my mind in those first couple of weeks, I would've opted for an abortion. Having a few months to decide what I wanted led me to have my son.
