I see a lot of liver cancer patients. Many of them have had regular blood check-ups with their GP for years, while there were never any suspicious results. And yet, they present with huge tumor masses in their liver in the ER without any chance of cure. The liver is a very robust organ, which is able to withstand a lot, but thereby also hides the real problem for a long time. Unfortunately too long for many patients. This is especially true for the subtype of cholangiocarcinoma, which is not related to alcohol abuse, hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver. So, unfortunately liver cancer is an insidious disease, which is why many patients are diagnosed late.

We have a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen in our basement, and I’ve already told my daughter she can live there as long as she wants or needs to. If she goes to college, we’re not charging her rent. If she somehow chooses not to, we’d charge something low just so adulthood still feels real. I don’t think making your kid struggle unnecessarily is some higher form of parenting. If you have the ability to give them a softer landing while they build a life, why wouldn’t you?
