One of the biggest mind-bends is this: Atlassian, the creator of JIRA, founded 23 years ago is NOT profitable. This is despite generating $4.6B in revenue (!!) Linear, founded in 2019, building “the modern JIRA for startups/scaleups” IS profitable. Make it make sense
Karri Saarinen@karrisaarinen

The Profitable Startup; Once you're profitable, you stop worrying about survival and focus on what really matters: building something great. Building the way you want. linear.app/blog/the-profi…

💯 @tobi is the sole reason I believed a hacker like myself could be a CEO of a 🇨🇦 startup. There were so many people that said I needed an MBA, to work at a FAANG, a marketing co-founder, or series A metrics to raise 💰. Still a long way to go, but I'm sure I'm not alone.
Mike Murchison@mimurchison

Agree that commercial success is the primary fuel source of startup ecosystem growth but let’s not underestimate community’s ability to increase our number of at bats. Dan, it was a community event that you hosted at Rotman in ~2011 with @ericries that had a big impact on me wanting to build in TO.

Instead of just talking more about how AI can be used to support Code Review, I decided it would be just best to show it so you can see for yourself. We're still in the early stages of fine tuning our approach but it's already super impressive how capable this technology is at assisting the developer workflow with contextual feedback on not just syntax and linting, but also logical assessment that can help improve code review for any team instantly. Give me a shout, I'd love to show you some of the more advance examples we've been testing. I may never need to google for a regex ever again!

Earlier this week we announced Code Review AI, now you can check it out in action! Join our Founder & CEO Kyle Campbell as he walks through the feature with a real-life example and the major benefits this can bring to teams. Dive in here 👉 go.cto.ai/3Jw1Zsa #AI #developer

Respectfully, You’re asking the wrong question. The goal is not measure a developer’s productivity. The goal is to measure a developer’s experience. Think of the developer as a user of a product (an internal developer workflow). The reason you measure developer experience is the same reason you measure usage of external product & improve it: so that the user of the product can achieve their goal. You want to measure the developer experience so you can remove friction for the developer and help them achieve their goal. Developers have no problem being productive when the systems they rely on to do their jobs support and enable them to do so. This is a problem I have spent the last 10 years working on with @CTO_ai and there are many ways to do this but the best method is with a CI/CD platform that natively measures software delivery processes. Then talk to your team and iterate together.

What is the best way to measure software engineer productivity? I know there are a handful of providers who purport to do this well, who is the best?

Today I’m excited to announce the first in a series of new AI features designed to enhance developer experience! This company started with the mission to build the worlds best platform to automate, measure & eventually enhance the developer experience using robust developer tooling that enables the vertical integration and context necessary to significantly advance the use of AI within the developer workflow. This was certainly ambitious and I couldn’t be more proud of the team that achieved this. We’ve spent countless hours building out sustainable and managed way for teams to automate & measure the process of building, testing, previewing & deploying. Now we are enabling the context from this process to be harnessed in LLMs that brings significantly advanced expertise to support developers with faster and more stable change sets as they deliver amazing products. This is only the first use case in our roadmap, so stay tuned for more on this very soon. While we’re in alpha, the feature will be free for early adopters in changeable feedback. It can be adopted as a standalone tool by simply integrating with GitHub, without adopting the rest of our platform, however with some of the incoming features we think it will make you want to also move your build, test, preview & deployment to our platform too. We’re also working on a solution that will allow you to bring your own private LLM, just as we have with secret management & container runtimes, so you can fine tune your models with your own data securely & compliantly. If you are interested in learning more about the future of AI & DX, leave a comment with “DX” and I’ll reach out to offer you a complete free demo of the features and show you more about what we have coming up next!

.@k8slens how does a lens pro business id get in touch with someone from sales/billing support? The online portal just doesn’t seem to work & has over charged us, while also saying that the subscription failed. The support portal also just throws errors & sales doesn’t respond to form submissions. 🤦

Bummed I couldn’t speak @RefactorSocial this week 🤧 so I thought the least I could do was offer my talk virtually next week. Hope to see a few people there and wanted to say a special thank you to @AhmadNassri for initially inviting me and covering off when I could not attend. Mark their event on your calendars for next year. Must attend.

Of course not but they ARE the main driving force behind the mass market of developers suddenly now having local architecture that is incompatible with the most common cloud architectures (again) & mistakenly thinking that docker was intended to solve cross platform architecture out of the box. Perhaps it’s one step back to take two steps forward (like what they did to kill flash) but I also don’t see amd losing its market share in the cloud anytime soon so yeah, blame Apple IMHO. Life was easier when we all used Linux.

Listen, I'm not a containers guy but I just built a container on my M1 Mac that didn't work on Fargate because it was the wrong architecture and I thought that was the whole point of Docker.
