In neighbouring Karnataka & many other states this convention was followed even by BJP’s Governors. Why a different stand ignoring precedents now?

@sardesairajdeep Lok Bhavan is not the place to prove majority. Leader of the single largest party has to be invited to form Govt & prove majority subsequently. Governor should follow the conventions & precedents

IMPORTANT: TN governor Rajendra Arlekar has in an official Lok Bhavan release told Vijay and TVK that requisite support has not been established for him to be sworn in. Amidst contrasting precedents, one thing is CLEAR: majorities cannot be decided in Lok Bhavan BUT on floor of assembly. So why is Governor keeping Vijay waiting when no one else is staking a claim? Governor is meant to ensure govts are formed, not block their formation after an election!

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

The BRICS+ meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys held in New Delhi on April 23-24 2026 ended without a joint statement. Iran and UAE are both part of the 11-member BRICS+ and their divergent positions on the war in West Asia are only to be expected. But what is shocking and shameful is that the other reason for not having a joint statement was India's insistence on diluting the language on Israel and Palestine which was unacceptable to the representatives from Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, UAE, and Iran. India is the only major country in the world to continue to show such steadfast solidarity with the Israeli regime that continues its genocide in Gaza, its heavy bombardment of southern Lebanon, and its brutal dispossession and displacement of lakhs of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The Prime Minister of India and the Prime Minister of Israel are clearly soulmates, with Israel also now being an important part of the vast predatory Modani empire.

Wow, amazing speed! Working overtime and on weekend, the Chairman of #RajyaSabha approved a 'merger' which was announced only 3 days ago and against which AAP filed a disqualification petition only 1 day ago. This is the same Chairman who: - took 24 days to ultimately decline the notice for removal of Chief Election Commissioner, moved by 63 Rajya Sabha MPs - NEVER decided the motion moved by Opposition MPs in December 2024 for impeachment of Justice Shekhar Yadav for his controversial speech at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event. Yadav has now conveniently retired (read more here - x.com/maadhyam_engag…) - Throughout the entire Budget Session, kept sitting on a notice submitted by Opposition MPs for a debate on crisis in West Asia and its impact on India's energy security (see here - x.com/maadhyam_engag…) Also, as explained here, once a petition for disqualification is moved, a process as laid down in Rajya Sabha rules has to be followed (x.com/maadhyam_engag…). How many of these steps did the Chairman follow or skip to give this decision with lightening speed? And here is Minister of Parliamentary Affairs celebrating the fact that provisions of #Constitution and rules of procedures of #Parliament were manipulated to approve the 'merger' of these 7 AAP MPs into BJP. Hypocrisy ki koi seema nahin hoti!
