There’s next to no chance I’d trade Willson Contreras this season. Offer would have to blow me away. I’d tell 44 to keep his bags packed because he could be on a flight out of town any given moment.

I’m trying to keep posting news and stories, but I’ll share this as nothing more than my opinion: even if the Red Sox don’t make the playoffs this year, the expectation should still be that they compete next season, especially once Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet are healthy. With that in mind, I believe Willson Contreras and Aroldis Chapman have helped solidify two important areas of the roster that could already be in place for next year.

I’d trade Aroldis Chapman, Sonny Gray, Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida, and/or Willson Contreras in a heartbeat. The Red Sox aren’t going to contend with any of those guys serving as a real contributors — they’ll be on the downswing by the time this team is ready to be serious.
