@whothehellsjack The government price gouges so hard that companies have to price gouge too just to have a usable amount of profit. Remember that honest profit is the point of running a business, the point of gov involvement is to keep the profit honest. We let them get in bed together though.

@whothehellsjack I used to think the same working construction all week for pennies. Now I own a construction company and I make nickels for the opportunity to pay dollars to the state and fed, insurance, licensing, softwares and subscriptions, etc. I'm lucky if I see 15% of revenue as income

@TheEXECUTlONER_ I usually enter the intersection as I wait to turn left but sometimes it's advantageous to wait further back, sometimes you get smaller openings and being able to accelerate a bit before turning can help. In a new city I think I tend to stay back.

This man finds it extremely aggravating when you are in a left hand turn lane and the car in front stops at the white line. He says you pull into the middle of the intersection and take control of the intersection and wait there. If oncoming traffic doesn’t let up, you turn as the light is about to turn red and oncoming traffic stops. Many said that defensive driving classes tell you to stay behind the white line until you can make a turn and have a safe exit and this causes accidents. He says that any CDL class will tell you to take control of the intersection and pull up to the middle of it, that way everyone isn’t waiting three rotations to get through the light. What do you do? How do you drive? Do you stay behind the white line or do you pull into the intersection?

@VirtudMental So much misunderstanding here, likely including some on my part. It appears to me though that this is not a dog fight, it is a dog bred for herding sheep that sees a large white dog and is trying to herd it. Should've let the Sammy correct the collie and it would've been over.

@AdamHKlein Anyone handling contracts with this level of negligence in their handling almost deserves to get scammed. Contract should have an end date too so it wouldn't just be as simple as scribbling a 2 in front of a 3, you'd need to change the year too.

A landlord sent over a 3-year lease. The tenant altered it & snuck in a “2,” turning it into 23 years, then signed and returned it. Landlord missed the change and countersigned…no legal remedy available. Rents have since gone up 4x. Tenant’s been saving ~$20k/month for almost 13 years, with 10 still left. Approx $1.8mm in total cash flow… Gone. Hire attorneys y’all!

Now wait a minute So mint is really hardy and grows fast and it's edible and it smells great ...and we have a problem with this? Why would you ever want a regular old lawn when you can just have a tiny pleasant-smelling mint field? Am I missing something here?

@DisabledDem If you pay attention to your body there are different signals for "I don't prefer that smell" and "that smell is something bad for my biology". It's how you can tell the difference between weed and skunk, or fart and sulfur. Its why rotting meat hits so differently.

that time I was at work, went to the restroom & noticed an overwhelming chemical smell. Called facilities & got someone who blew me off. "It smells like dissolving plastic in nail polish remover and my head hurts now. Please let someone know," and then I left the building. 1/?

@InesBetancur1 That's why friends shouldn't let friends drink alone. Dude probably didn't make it, that was a swift uppercut from the horse followed by a nearly full body weight slam on the back of the head against the concrete. One good influence could've prevented this.

Little neighborhood drama this morning. The lady across the street who has been laid off for the past six months (I know this because I helped her with her resume) has an interview this morning (she told me that as well). I went outside to move my car, and she was pulling out of her gate. She pulled back into her driveway because she forgot something. I looked down the street and saw a tow truck make a sudden movement WHILE I was backing out. So I stopped in the street.

When I was 7 months pregnant, my husband and I went to a party and they had cherry pie. I brought one slice home specifically for myself because at that stage of pregnancy I thought about food constantly. I put it in the fridge, went to bed, and fully planned on eating it the next day. The next morning I woke up already thinking about that pie. I walked to the kitchen excited, opened the fridge, and the container was empty. That man ate it. Not even after a few days. Not after asking me if I still wanted it. This happened within hours. I just stood there staring into the fridge trying to process what I was seeing. Then I started crying so hard he thought something actually terrible had happened. And honestly I still defend my.......

@DrAlmarielao Here in New Mexico they grew corn for hundreds of years as part of the three sisters planting, along with beans to climb the corn and squash to shade the ground. The corn that wasn't eaten fresh was left to dry before harvest and used for corn meal throughout the winter.

It’s wild how something so common can be so misunderstood. Not All Corn Is Created Equal… And Most People Don’t Know This Sweet corn, the kind you enjoy at a summer BBQ, is harvested early while it’s soft, juicy, and naturally sugary. But the corn covering most U.S. fields? That’s feed corn, a tough, starchy grain left to dry on the stalk, used for livestock, ethanol, and processed foods. Same plant… completely different purpose. The difference isn’t just taste. it’s timing. One is picked in its “milky” stage for flavor and tenderness, the other is harvested late when it’s hard and nutrient-dense for industrial use. What looks like the same crop is actually two very different food systems hiding in plain sight. Did you think all corn was the same before this, or does this change how you see what’s on your plate?

so you're telling me spirit airlines was in trouble, knew they had to do something, and attempted to participate in the free market by allowing jetblue to acquire them. the government then stepped in and said, “no, you’re not allowed to participate in the free market, " denying the acquisition. so then spirit, knowing that they were about to fail, seeks a government bailout, only to be told, "no, you must participate in the free market” to which they were denied participation in. this doesn’t seem like free market capitalism to me.

@TheProjectUnity I live in NM in the high desert at 6500' and regularly hike around 10,500' and work construction, I'm pretty used to being in direct sun and know how much I can handle before burning. I've noticed a significant change since mid March, the sun is INTENSE right now.

Okay is anyone else's skin burning way faster than normal in the UK right now? It feels like the sun is far more intense... Even my darker skinned friends are saying they are feeling a new intensity to the sun. But it's only like 21 degrees Celsius... It's weird.

@tuuu28283 V6 has its place for sure but they just don't compare to the sound of a V8, it's a symphony of symmetric syncrony. Every engine choice is going to be platform specific but if you need something with towing capability nothing will give you more smiles per gallon than a V8.

@anishmoonka You would have to move this satellite around to refocus which has significant energy expenses, but a lens with the cross section of the suns gravitational effects would at least be enough to see movement within cities.

@anishmoonka But gravity bends light, specifically the space time fabric that light travels on, this was proven by the location discrepancies of background stars during a solar eclipse. So in theory there's a focal point around the sun where you could put a satellite to use the sun as a lens

The tweet about aliens 2,000 light years away seeing the Roman Empire is wrong, and the actual physics is stranger. To see one person on Earth from that distance, you'd need a telescope wider than the distance from the Sun to Pluto. That's 50 times farther than Earth is from the Sun. No civilization can build that, ours or theirs. It sounds like exaggeration, but the math requires it. By the time light from a person on Earth reaches a planet 2,000 light years away, it has spread across so much empty space that catching enough to form an image would need that solar-system-sized lens. The geometry doesn't bend, no matter how clever the engineering. A SETI Institute team led by Sofia Sheikh worked all of this out in February 2025. Our loudest signal is planetary radar, the focused radio beams scientists fire at asteroids and planets to map them. Beams from the now-collapsed Arecibo dish in Puerto Rico could reach 12,000 light years away, about a tenth of the way across the galaxy. After that comes radar leaking from airports and military bases. A giant ground antenna like the Green Bank dish in West Virginia could detect those signals from around 200 light years out, roughly the distance to a few thousand of our nearest stars. A next-gen NASA telescope still in development could spot air pollution like nitrogen dioxide from factories and cars at 5.7 light years away. That puts Proxima Centauri, our nearest star at 4.2 light years, just inside the range. City lights at night go dark past the icy outer shell of our solar system, around 2,300 times the Earth-Sun distance. The famous "I Love Lucy" idea is also wrong. The story goes that aliens are watching our 1950s sitcoms because the broadcasts are still spreading through space. Astronomer Seth Shostak crunched the numbers years ago. A radio antenna the size of a city, sitting 55 light years away, couldn't pick that signal up. Not even close. At that range, the broadcast is a million times weaker than what the antenna can pick out of the background noise. Old TV signals fade out within the first light year of travel. So at 2,000 light years away, an alien civilization with our level of technology would see Earth as a tiny dot of light next to the Sun, with hints of oxygen, methane, and maybe some industrial pollution in its atmosphere. They'd see weather. They might guess that something living is here from the chemistry. Continents, cities, individual humans, the Roman Empire, single events: none of those would be visible. The information was lost within a few light years of leaving Earth, well before reaching the closest star. We're loud to anyone within 200 light years. Past that, we go silent. That signal bubble has only existed for 75 years, so the actual sphere of civilizations that could know we exist is small. And it's getting smaller. Television broadcasts are dying. Satellites use tight focused beams aimed at receivers on the ground, not the sky. Earth's window of being a noisy planet may already be closing.
Curiosity@CuriosityonX

🚨: A civilization 2,000 light-years away pointing a powerful enough telescope at Earth right now would see the Roman Empire. They'd see Jesus alive.

@OrevaZSN How do we get people to understand that the rich are the ones writing the tax laws so when you say "tax the rich" it will inevitably make its way to the commonwealth. The rich already owe their fair share, they have so many tax breaks and loopholes built in that they'll never pay
