The existence of twilight does not diminish the contrast between night and day. Good and evil exist, regardless of the existence (and insistence within modern storytelling) of moral ambiguity.
But more than that, the reason why tales of good and evil resonate is that they reflect the internal struggle within each individual. It's precisely because of those moral "shades of grey", rather than in spite of them, that these stories work.
