intelligence does not seem to have monopolistic effects: the knowledge to build it is diffuse, the frontier has several competing firms offering as much free as possible. as such the proposals to make special “robot taxes” are premature, maybe unhelpful

one bias the labs have persistently had, perhaps due to the fact that being a business requires this maniacal optimism, is that they will capture incredible amounts of financial value of their own revolution: I think it will be like before, and they will capture tiny %s of it

@hopes_revenge one model for everything is an economic necessity that leads to the central dogma of the labs

i am deeply skeptical of the wisdom of the current ai lab product paradigm: 1) one model for almost all use cases . 2) one “super-app” platform goes against everything i have ever learned or personally experienced in product & brand strategy / architecture

@tszzl actually it appears to be Jensen's interview for Trump's attention. Xi meeting should happen shortly. he's not wrong tho: all 5 layers are important

the discourse about the dwarkesh jensen interview is ridiculous: the fact that a 25yo podcaster can make the ceo of the largest company in the world dance and answer to the people at all is impressive. the purpose of media is not to respectfully sing praises to the powerful

dear woke right "independent journalists" & influencers: H2B visas are a completely different visa category, used for seasonal work, primarily dominated by nationals from central and latin america (mexicans ~ 70-80% of the visas) please don't go around hounding indians for this thanks for your attention to this matter
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ

Exclusive: President Trump approved more H-2B visas for foreign workers after meeting with associates who have ties to his businesses on.wsj.com/4tTjaco

the ai labs, in competing with each other, are burning huge amounts of the commons on public trust in ai to win minor points against the others. their lobbyists, pr machines, lawsuits. it’s the very opposite of what marxist class struggle analysis would tell you

@narrenhut obviously just plain old racism in the classical sense. you just move the goalposts forever. I once saw a right winger calling an indian-american displaying some form of american patriotism “shrill” and “put-upon”. politically speaking, I think this group is already irrelevant

I don't think this will work, actually. People know that "UBI as the solution to AGI" means "you and your descendants become fully dependent on government largesse, for all eternity". That scares the shit out of most people.
keysmashbandit@keysmashbandit

Actually this is correct and I'd go further. Beyond PR, the moral move is for big labs to start heavily investing in UBI lobbyists, thinktanks, whatever, to mitigate the risk of economic upheaval. A better world is possible!

For this creator payout cycle, we’re experimenting with new tools to identify original authors of content and allocating a portion of revenue to them. Over the last few months, we've seen incredible work from original creators on X. Nick Shirley uncovered billions of dollars of fraud in hospice care. Charles Curran parodied global events with studio-quality videos. Will Manidis earned acclaim for his insightful articles on technology and AI. Reposts & commentary will always be a core pillar of X, but our Revenue Sharing program should incentivize original, high-quality content that brings new value to the Timeline. This means rewarding the effort it takes to produce something, not just the poster who helped it travel furthest. This is how we build a richer Timeline and how X continues to be the most valuable platform in the world. The Revenue Sharing program will continue to evolve to encourage creators to post their best content to X.
