Emerging allegations suggest that former Speaker Among and former Deputy Speaker Tayebwa were both deeply implicated in corruption at Parliament. This diagram points to a wider network of patronage, nepotism and mutual appointments surrounding Tayebwa. Why then is he not stepping aside, as Among has, to allow an independent investigation into corruption at Parliament? If reinstated, would he not be in a position to interfere with evidence or influence witnesses? InUganda, journalism is in jeopardy because of those in power . Gerald Katunda was an investigative journalist at BBS Terefayina ,who gave his all for a program called "Omunaala" ,where he always exposed those who used their power to take people's property . One day ,Katumba was contacted by people from Mubende ,Butologo ,whose land had been taken ,and others killed and buried in Butologo forest . When the late Kalangwa heard that there were journalists who came to cover his story , he sent his boys to beat them up ,but they narrowly escaped. Katumba and his fellow team were told to leave Mubende before anything bad happened to them ,they boarded a car but came back to the trading center ,while the car came back to Kampala without them. The driver was sabotaged on the way ,car checked ,and asked where his passengers were ,to which he answered that they had remained in the trading centre ,waiting for money to transport them back ,because they were penniless . Meanwhile , Katumba called Kalangwa and asked him about what was being said by the residents ,and he gave them the venue and time for the interview. However , Katumba's heart skipped and he asked Kalangwa that they give him their own venue to which he declined. Later on , their fellow journalist at CBS called Nsubuga ,who was Kalangwa's puppy at CBS contacted Katumba and his other colleague asking them to let go of the story in exchange of 3 million shillings each ,while he took 1 million shillings as a middleman. Katumba rejected the money ,to not disappoint the people who had trusted him that much . Back to the station,he added two more million shillings but Katumba didnot give in ,and told him that the money being offered was an answer of what they needed from Kalangwa. His bosses told him they wouldn't air the story ,but he used his ways and aired it anyways in the middle of the night. Since then , they suppressed Katumba until he quit his job . They never sent him to the field again , he was not paid for 5 whole months ,until he couldn't take it anymore and left the station. Personally, I was once in a situation where I was asked to cover a story ,risky to my life ,yet with no protection from those I worked for. I had to choose between work and life ,and I don't regret choosing life . Don't ever blame a journalist when they back out of a story because a lot happens behind closed doors ,but never revealed to the public.

If Turkey extradites Fred Lumbuye to Uganda, it risks violating the UN Convention Against Torture (CAT), which prohibits transferring a person to a country where there are substantial grounds they may face torture or cruel treatment. Uganda’s record is documented globally.
