@mert How about Special Economic Zones for them x.com/balajis/status…?
Balaji@balajis

THE SPECIAL ELON ZONE (SEZ) There's a simple way to rebuild manufacturing in the US: just give @elonmusk control of a huge swath of land surrounding Starbase, Texas and allow him to set whatever regulations he wants. In more detail: 1) First, sunset the regulations. America has talent. What it doesn't have is friendly regulations, particularly in terms of labor and environmental laws. But President Trump and Governor Abbott of Texas can use executive orders to remove obsolete laws at state and federal level. And for anything they can't remove, they can direct state and federal police to exercise discretion in terms of non-enforcement. Think of Starbase as a "sanctuary city", but for innovation — using leftist tactics in reverse. 2) Then, allocate capital. With regulatory barriers down capital will likely flow freely. However, in the unlikely event it doesn't, then you can do government VC. Basically: Democrats gave $370B+ to John Podesta to waste on climate graft, so the precedent is already established. But Elon is a proven capital allocator. So have Treasury back up the truck to make Elon —or his designates — the #1 VC in America. Obviate all charges of conflicts of interest by giving the US itself a large stake in any company that's funded, with significant distribution of funds to Texans themselves, while also recognizing that of course Elon's contacts will include some of the most technically competent people in the world — and they'll be operating companies in the zone. 3) Ensure border security. Given the security risks Elon faces, he'll need border control. So you might designate the land surrounding Starbase to be a military base or something similar, so that he can fence it off and determine at his sole discretion who can enter. Similarly, ideally every single person in the zone has opted in to be there, so no one can complain about the pro-builder regulations. 4) Proceed at the speed of physics. Finally, with all man-made barriers removed in the form of regulation and capitalization, Elon and his designates can move at the speed of physics — not permits. Perhaps the single most important thing they could build would be mass-produced Tesla humanoids, which (if successful) could in turn build everything else. 5) Nail it, then scale it. Once there's traction, replicate the idea in other states, giving other proven founders like @PalmerLuckey their own special economic zones. I'm sure Florida and Ohio would want theirs after Texas proves it out. Basically, the idea of special economic zones has been proven around the world to unlock production. Since most of what you're doing is putting a line through regulations, it's cheap, fast, and likely to work. And if it does, you'll get more factories like this:

random thought why don't some trillion dollar companies like google/apple start their own nation states? they already have more GDP than most countries, buy land, negotiate diplomacy, set up a no-tax zone for people to start new startups that contribute to the company etc

L2beat would be the appropriate comparison because Balaji has laid out specific steps to go from startup society -> network state, and each one could be ranked and evaluated by their stage. A zkcensus would be an important way to rank them, ofc.

The average ancient historian led troops, tutored a prince, governed a province, advised a king, made a fortune, fell from favor, was exiled, and buried 7 of their 10 children. The average modern historian passed a few tests then wrote a book on their laptop next to their cat.

Could @base become a network state? Yes, I think so. Let me explain. First, what is a network state? It’s basically a decentralized country. This is @balajis's definition: “A network state is a social network with a moral innovation, a sense of national consciousness, a recognized founder, a capacity for collective action, an in-person level of civility, an integrated cryptocurrency, a consensual government limited by a social smart contract, an archipelago of crowdfunded physical territories, a virtual capital, and an onchain census that proves a large enough population, income, and real estate footprint to attain a measure of diplomatic recognition.” Let’s go through each component with respect to Base. A social network? Yes, Base is absolutely a social network. Just open the @baseapp and you’ll see what I mean. A moral innovation? Yes, Base has a defined and distinct set of core beliefs: “ownership unlocks creativity”, “open beats closed” and “global is the default” to name a few. A sense of national consciousness? Yes, there is a genuine sense of community where people feel part of something bigger than themselves. A recognized founder? Yes, this is @jessepollak, supported by great leaders throughout the community. A capacity for collective action? Yes, in fact this is an understatement. Base ships. Just look at what’s been built so far. An in-person level of civility? Yes, I would say our in-person events are pretty civilized! An integrated cryptocurrency? Yes, the ticker is ETH! A consensual government limited by a social smart contract? Not yet but Stage 1 Decentralization is a big milestone in this direction. An archipelago of crowdfunded physical territories? Not yet, but we’re rapidly bringing on Country Leads and Ambassadors to establish and grow Base’s presence all around the world. A virtual capital? Yes, this is being built and it’s the @baseapp! It’s where the network will gather, authenticated by onchain login and crypto credentials. A onchain census that proves a large enough population, income, and real estate footprint? Not yet but getting there. Over 8 million people viewed Base's New Day 1 Live Stream - that’s about the population of Switzerland. The economy has millions of unique wallets and the total income of the base chain and the apps built on it is already in the billions. That’s enough to fund a pretty significant real estate footprint! A measure of diplomatic recognition? No. We’re not at that stage yet. But with sufficient growth and time it’s possible. It wasn't long ago that most governments thought bitcoin was a joke. Now the United States is adding it to their national reserve. So there you have it. I believe Base is on its way to becoming a network state and that together, we’re building a new country. Personally, I find that quite motivating!

New construction shouldn't include footpaths. Just lay grass, let people trample the most efficient routes, then go back and pave those.

this is fun and interesting creator ETFs i) your fav CT person creates index fund of tokens, say ZEC, SOL, BTC, some shitcoin and mints their ETF shares ii) you buy their ETF shares if you think the person is a good decision maker iii) depending on how the ETF does, you can finally know if a given personality is a sound investor or a LARP iv) also useful for when friends ask you what to buy, they can just buy your ETF v) assuming the ETF does well, it also provides steady source of flows to the underlying and helps the defi ecosystem vi) transparency for the coins is built in since you can see CAs and all details by default if I were to make a mert ETF (it would basically just hold SOL and ZEC + some amount of BTC, HYPE and SOL DeFi) — would that be interesting?
Akshay BD@akshaybd

The real opportunity in creator coins is for them to be user generated ETFs individuals who research, share a thesis and build a basket of assets against that and earn a fee on the AUM eg., Akshay coin will be just be a wrapper around a basket of VAS.AX, VHYL.L, IUKD.L, ES3.SI, URA, IXJ and MCHI that’s programmatically balanced according to rules I set
