This week we witnessed a truly horrific school shooting in Tumbler Ridge. And at a time when British Columbians are uniting in support of the community, some people have been exploiting this tragedy to push a political agenda against trans kids. That's shameful and wrong. 🧵

I don't know anything about either of these men, but I don't think it's true that Pierre Poilievre can't afford a bespoke suit. I can show you. If you zoom in on the Poilievre's suit, you can see subtle dimples along the edge of his lapel. These dimples indicate that the suit was handmade using something called a pick stitch. That's where the tailor finishes the edge by compressing multiple layers of cloth using just a needle and thread, so it doesn't roll to the wrong side. This sort of finishing is only see on suits that cost at least four figures. Notably, ready-to-wear suits — including those from luxury lines such as Cucinelli — still use a machine-finished edge, often executed with an AMF or Complett machine. In the last slide, I've attached a video from Redmayne, a British bespoke tailoring house, that demonstrates the difference between these two finishing techniques. This very strongly suggests that Poilievre's suits are benchmade, which is to say hand tailored. I don't think clothes have anything to do with a person's character or leadership skills. So I'm not sure where you're drawing this connection. I was simply remarking on how posture changes how clothes fit. Poilievre appears to use a custom tailor who produces benchmade suits. His tailor produces clothes for his natural build, but he stands overly erect when he knows people are looking at him, thus spoiling the fit that his tailor gives him.

One man is sitting on (well-earned) earnings from the private sector that would make Scrooge McDuck green with envy and can afford bespoke… Everything. The other isn’t and can’t. And if your point is that well tailored suits make him look more like a leader… Well, that’s a level performative nothingness that I’m just really tired of.

Watch these two videos. Then answer these two questions: — Which of the two men is better dressed? — How does each come off?

Turning reconciliation into a wedge issue might generate headlines, but it would come at the expense of jobs and prosperity for British Columbians. We all want to build the B.C. of our dreams. To get there, the path forward is together — or not at all. vancouversun.com/opinion/op-ed/…

@SteveKooner The first thing the BCNDP did was say they would be appealing the decision. B.C. Conservatives sent a fundraising email. How is that serving your constituents?

Rather than work together to help affected homeowners and protect property rights, Premier Eby secretly ordered one of his staffers to spread his political spin to my constituents behind my back. The NDP are in damage control mode over their unpopular ideological refusal to stand up for homeowners. Our province deserves better than NDP backroom politics. Conservatives will defend property owners and will NEVER compromise on the rights of British Columbians.

@Gillanders_L @WestcoastWood Cows protect the baby calves. Once, when coyotes attacked the calves the cows formed a circle around the calves. When a coyote came close a cow ran out with head down and tossed it in the air. Deer would probably do the same. Roosters protect chickens from hawks but not coyotes.

God this is gruesome. As will be this short thread. It's true, not all dead children were murdered, which seems to be Brodie's blind focus. Many were like little Jim Baker, who was left to die of spinal meningitis far from home, with insufficient care.

Canada’s trade response will strategically pressure Donald Trump where we know it’ll have an impact. John Rustad thinks that strategy is unfair to US Republicans. We don’t represent Americans. We work for British Columbians, and we’ll keep putting British Columbians first.
John Rustad@JohnRustad4BC

This proves my earlier point — Eby’s NDP is focused on framing Trump as a political enemy because their pollsters and strategists tell them it will poll well. They care about playing partisan politics for their own gain, not about standing up for workers — that’s why they’re not trying to de-escalate and help British Columbians avoid tariffs, economic hardship, and chaos. Our province needs a “BC First” strategy — but sadly, once again, we’re getting an “Eby First” strategy! They just can’t help themselves… Everything is about political opportunism and partisan politics for Eby’s NDP, they are obsessed with polls and playing pretend US politics… presumably, because they watch too many late night shows. Minister Bailey, who was wearing US Democrat Party merchandise during BC’s election season, should not be planning retaliatory tariffs that are specifically designed to make Trump and the US think BC’s response is solely about impacting partisan politics in the United States. I want to be crystal clear on this — it is dangerous and irresponsible for Eby’s NDP to specifically tariff only Republican states, who may not be at fault, simply because the current US president is Republican. This risks further politicizing the trade dispute and verges on cross-border political interference. The NDP Minister needs to stop playing politics and putting BC workers at risk — we need to come to the table and de-escalate, so we can save BC jobs. #bcpoli

@ryanlpainter You can’t negotiate with bad faith actors by rolling over and bowing to threats. Seeking resolution and common ground are worthwhile - like the act of sending wildfire fighters. But responding to an active threat with platitudes is silly when you know the goalposts aren’t fixed.

BC Premier David Eby said he couldn't send out rebates to BC because of the threat of Trump's tariffs and a "trade war." Now that tariffs are not imminent, I'm sure Eby will immediately send out those $1000 rebates.
Ryan Painter@ryanlpainter

Let's compare and contrast approaches and outcomes: David Eby - Ramps up trade war talk, blames inability to provide relief to BCers on Trump, doesn't resolve anything. Danielle Smith - Takes a collaborative approach, visits Trump, talks to lawmakers, and gets a win for the country. I know which one I prefer.
