@WriteOnMaude @JLLiedl "T" is an ideology by any definition. Non-rational assertion of power, devoid of--and uninterested in--any correspondence of speech to reality. Assertions of "identity" flatly contradicted by science.

@JLLiedl Pope Leo’s theological anthropology definitely has something to say about LGBTQ people (we’re not an ideology - please pray on that). He devotes so much space to human dignity that I can help but find it affirming for the diversity of human experience.

Hm. Perhaps the theological anthropology at the heart of Pope Leo's critique of AI--one centered on the gift of creation, natural limits, and the human person as body and soul--has something also to say abt LGBTQ ideology and a sort of "difference flattening" vision of the sexes?

#Magnificashumanitas deserves the widest possible reading and consideration. But Until the Church practices what it preaches, it might not get the welcome reception it deserves. My column @commonwealmag: commonwealmagazine.org/leo-magnifica-…?

Mayor Zohran Mamdani defends his decision to skip the Israel Day Parade, making him the first New York City mayor to bypass the historic event since 1964. "I said on the campaign trail that I wouldn't be attending the parade, and I've made my views on the Israeli government abundantly clear.” “And I also said on that same campaign that I would have a responsibility as the mayor of the city to ensure the safety and security of each and every New Yorker.” “And I don't believe that my presence as the mayor should determine whether or not a New Yorker is safe or secure."

I have a discussion of this in my book, Citizens Yet Strangers, using Walker Percy's The Moviegoer as the example. Percy’s contention, as set forth in the novel, is that the modern person has lost his sense of transcendence. He has lost his sense of self as uniquely known through the various signposts that give shape and meaning to his life. He does not know himself. But, in his delightfully whimsical character Binx Bolling, Percy shows us that we have not lost the capacity for transcendence, elusive as it might seem. Through these and other questions, Percy accounts both for the transcendent dignity of the human person and our inability to understand what it means. We can know ourselves, but we do not. We are alienated from ourselves because we are alienated from God. As Percy explains, the “Christian self” is “created by God, estranged from God … and now reconciled with him.” As such, this self “is conscious of itself as a creature of God embarked upon a pilgrimage in this life and destined for happiness and reunion with God in a later life.” But with “the fading of Christianity as a guarantor of the identity of the self, the self becomes distorted … is both cut loose and imprisoned by its own freedom.”

Not bad from the pope in his latest encyclical (Magnifica Humanitas) - to be more than human does not mean inserting a chip in your brain....

"Toward an 'ecology of communication' in Magnifica Humanitas": @krcraycraft writes @cworldreport that while AI didn't invent perversion of speech, it can exacerbate it. “Disinformation did not begin with AI,” notes Pope Leo, “yet today it finds a powerful amplifier in AI."

@JasonDHill6 A boy who can’t play on the girls team will kill himself, but the girl who can’t play on the team, because she loses her spot to him, is just a whiner with no sense of perspective. Trans is a cult. It’s a left wing shibboleth. No logic necessary.

Dedicating his first encyclical to social justice would show how much Leo, like his predecessor Pope Francis, is trying to shift Catholicism away from the near fixation on “pelvic theology,” or sexual morality, that has come to define Catholicism, especially in Leo’s home country, the United States. nytimes.com/2026/05/22/opi…

@JenniferSey It's not 80%. It's 100%. 100% of the human population knows that he is a man, and that a man cannot become a woman. 80% are honest; 20% are liars.

Not gonna lie, the last few weeks have felt like I'm banging my head against a wall. It's time for the 80% to say it out loud: men cannot become women. Ever. You know it. Say it. We need you (mostly silent) 80%. We will win - truth outs in the end - but we need you.

I wonder what percentage of people who say "our obsession with sexual morality is obfuscating other important teachings!!" actually just mean that, and what percentage really just want to change, actively or passively, practices and even teaching related to sex and sexuality.

My father grew up in the segregated South. He had to walk around to the BACK of a restaurant just to order a sandwich because he was black. THAT was Jim Crow. Not showing a photo ID to vote. You need an ID to: • Board a plane • Cash a check • Buy alcohol • Enter federal buildings But suddenly showing an ID to vote is “racist”? Give me a break. This is not civil rights. This is political theater. The Democrat Party survives by manufacturing grievance because they have nothing else to run on. Comparing voter ID laws to segregation is not just dishonest, it is insulting to the people who actually lived through Jim Crow. Asking Americans to prove they are who they say they are when they cast their vote is called common sense.
