🌟 Leading Without Burning Out 📩 Late-night emails with an expectation to respond by 8 AM. 🕰️ Schedules dictated by a figurehead, not by logic or efficiency. 🏅 The "24/7 mentality" worn as a badge of honour. 🚨 This isn’t just dedication—it’s dysfunction. Great leaders know when to push and when to pause. ✅ Focus on quality interactions rather than clocking endless hours. How do you balance being a leader and preserving your energy?

👥 The Untapped Support Network Athletes often have a team of people to support them. But what about the coaches and practitioners? The truth is, it’s okay to ask for help. Surrounding yourself with the right people—mentors, coaches, or peers—can make all the difference. Who’s in your corner?

🤔 What’s Tied to Your Identity? For many professionals in sport, their identity becomes wrapped up in “the badge.” It’s where pride and purpose come from—but what happens when that badge no longer feels fulfilling? Exploring who you are beyond the job title is the key to long-term fulfillment. Are you ready to start that journey?

@Coachgriffin88 Not being agile enough in my application of programs in-season, using a one size fits all recovery method (not including the individual and giving them options based on what gets them to buy-in), micro managing match day warm-ups, chasing numbers…and them some more 🤦🏼‍♂️

Question for strength and conditioning coaches… What’s one mistake you’ve made during your career, that you’re willing to share, in order to help other coaches avoid making the same mistake?

It's remarkable how often the real problem is not what happened, but how it was communicated.

Practitioner Workshops - Starting on 4th June 2024 🚀 This is the launch of a new format of workshops aimed at providing solutions to the common challenges practitioners and coaches are experiencing - yet most feel isolated and alone with their struggles. This first workshop is called "Bringing Practitioners Together" 🎯 If my research has taught me one thing, it’s that many coaches and practitioners are experiencing very similar challenges - yet they feel isolated and alone. During this session, I will lead a discussion for practitioners to connect, share and discuss new ways to challenge your status quo and work culture in your current role - giving you actionable steps to take with you! Topics include: 📍 The 7 Stand-out challenges practitioners experience 📍Looking underneath the symptoms - what’s really going on 📍Department power dynamics and why that limits impact 📍The power of talking 📍Key actions to empower yourself and your department to take personal responsibility We'll also have questions to reflect on together such as: 📍How much capacity as a practitioner are you using? 📍Do you feel you're constantly putting a show on? 📍How is your energy affecting athletes and your other colleagues? 📍Are you trying to be right or effective? 📍What support do you need? 📍What blocks change? 🗓 Tuesday, June 4th, 2024 🕐 7:00pm GMT (2pm EST, 11am PST) 🔗 Zoom 📍FREE Register for free here: menbehindsport.com/workshop-bring…

📍When did you last share who you truly are and what you're experiencing? 📍Do any of your colleagues know you outside of sport? 📍Do you truly know your colleagues? Who are they as a person? What do they love to do outside of work? 🚩Performance sport is spiritually starving. Starving for deeper conversations. Starving to impact people's lives outside of metrics, KPI's, results. 🚩We are tired of wearing masks. Tired of performing. Tired of “better never stops.” 🎯We all know we’re part of something bigger, that our souls are being stifled. That's what you feel at the core of you! That we are not machines meant to work and die. 🎧 I invite you to listen to this conversation with @codyroyle and tune in to how you FEEL, not how you think when listening. 🎙The Rehumanisation of Sport 🎙 👁 It seems crystal clear to me now - human performance is not separate from spirituality. Spirituality is a cornerstone to sustained, healthy, abundant and elevated levels of "performance." Click link in comments below to LISTEN NOW #menbehindsport #untappedpotential

The "Myths of Normal" of high-performance sports practitioners. Todays Myth: 🗣"I feel as a lead I'm the most "experienced" and "need" to know all the answers." 🙋🏻‍♂️Cause - Fear sits at the core of this myth (fear of not being good enough, needing to prove impact, fear of losing job etc). This sense of low confidence, fear of getting things wrong and the burden of needing to be "world-class" is leaving many frozen and actually far less impactful and effective than they perceive. Both on an individual level and on a department level. 🚩 Symptoms - self-preservation and a fixation on the X's and O's. Disconnected from an intuitive sense of knowing (intelligence), with an over-reliance on gaining more knowledge (intellect). 📍You are being micro-managed 📍Significantly restricts your autonomy 📍Unable to speak your professional opinions 📍You get closed down or undermined in meetings 📍You keep taking courses because you feel you don't "know enough" 📍This leaves you frustrated with low motivation as you scan the jobs page each day after work. Or... You are the HOP that is doing that to your staff (most likely unconsciously). ✅ A Solution 🙋🏻‍♂️Ownership of how you show up in your life! Decreasing the gap between who you are and what you truly think on the inside VS the mask you hide behind and display to your colleagues. 🙋🏻‍♂️Psychological safety is a term getting some air time lately. Most of which is a tick box with very little integrity in actually embodying it in the department. Why? 🙋🏻‍♂️Because it means letting down your guard and being truly authentic - which can be terrifying! 🙋🏻‍♂️To do this requires a redirection of your awareness from comparison to others, towards getting to know yourself from within. 🔥Without it, true high performance is a mere pipe dream because practitioners will take fewer ‘risks’ in trying new things, won't openly question and debate and will do what they can to "fit in." 🙋🏻‍♂️The HOP, head coach or lead needs to step up here and embody this themselves to allow their staff to open up as well. 🙋🏻‍♂️This is where next-level organisations and teams will thrive in the coming years, and the old guard of out-of-date "suck it up" and attitudes will be left behind. Drop me a DM if you are interested in learning more about the Practitioner Needs Analysis and the other services we offer at Men Behind Sport. 📍Currently have 2 spots available for 1-1 coaching 🗓 Next Group coaching begins: January 10th 2024

High Performance Planning 📈and a free EBook! This picture represents one of the most high performance strategies I’ve been a part of with @teamgb and the rugby 7s squads. Both in 2016 where we won 🥈 and the 2020 campaign, had one common problem to solve. ➡️Bringing together players from different nations to gel and play at an optimum level over 12 weeks (Rio prep) or 5months (Tokyo prep) The physical preparation was very different for both these campaigns, with different strategies required because the game was different and the players too. What you may be surprised to here is we didn’t fitness test once in the lead up to Tokyo. But we had a specific reason for why. In the 2016 prep we had 34players to choose from, and in 2021 we had 24. Therefore maximising player availability and balancing that against functional overreaching and rotation of players in training looked very different. The way I problem solved and the questions I asked throughout didn’t change though. We needed to know what success looked like at key times: ✅ in competition ✅ in travel ✅ in training We also needed to know the plan, and how we would prepare to adapt it There was also a conscious effort to connect our high performance decisions to a greater purpose as part of a wider @teamgb team - creating relatedness in everything we did. If you’d like to read more about the 10 key principles I use in performance planning, comment “performance” by replying below and I’ll send you a link to a free ebook detailing each principle. 👍🙌🏉
