@notjessewalker Wait. I have numerous british friends. "Muppet" is an insult? I don't recall ever being called that, but had no idea that was a thing. Wowza, kinda reeling here. I always thought "muppet" like "kodak" – made-up word, which is fine, but WTF?

Twitter exposes you to a world rich with cultural variety, like when British people use "Muppet" as an insult.

@marcorandazza There's one in every other strip mall in MD. They handle everything but licensing, and the irony is that they're expensive as hell compared to the DMV (In MD, it's the MVA, but whatever.) But they save you from waiting in line.

Why do we need a government sponsored Department of motor vehicles? I understand why we need insurance. Why don’t we just contract out to the insurance companies to do the job that the DMV does? Or just let there be multiple competing, private registration companies?

@notjessewalker Dunno man, a single phrase can redeem a song IMO. "Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac" saunters into my mind every couple of months while I'm driving.

@OrinKerr @asymmetricinfo Meta-observation: Given the tone and analytical posture, I would’ve confidently stated that this was Claude if you’d framed it as “here’s an AI speculating…”

Inspired by @asymmetricinfo's column about AI identifying the authors of writing, I wondered if it could figure out who wrote SCOTUS per curiam opinions. FWIW, here's Claude speculating on who wrote the per curiam last week in DC v. RW. supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf…

@can "Alien technology" really hit me, but yeah, this whole thing just feels insane. Honestly feels creepy like 2022 stuff. Like, WTF, so you not see/feel how users are perceiving this? Very odd at this point. To me, anyway.

honestly, dealing with alien technology is tricky and i appreciate the honesty of this report but it was very weird ant employees trying to gaslight ppl on twitter when it was very obvious to everyone something was off.

Over the past month, some of you reported Claude Code's quality had slipped. We investigated, and published a post-mortem on the three issues we found. All are fixed in v2.1.116+ and we’ve reset usage limits for all subscribers.

i think both the tenants advocates and the landlord lobby basically agree on the basic fact that property will not appreciate in price/appreciation won't be realized (this should be the same thing) if the owner doesn't control who lives there and on what terms
Talia Jane ❤️‍🔥@taliaotg

A few years ago, my neighbors were evicted from their multigenerational home. The cousin who owned the deed (did not live there) was coerced to sell to a developer. The tenants tried, unsuccessfully, to defend their home. It was demolished and is now empty luxury condos for sale.

I just finished teaching course in Italy. They brought me a bunch of papers so I could get paid. I asked "do you still have a party at the end of the semester?" "yes, why?" "Can you buy wine with my pay, and I dont have to fill these out?" "um, wow, um... yes...."

@esrtweet Much engagement, not gonna read all that to see if this has been covered, but unless housed in a shoulder holster, driving with a sidearm is a PITA. Like physically painful. And it's just simpler to keep the gun in the vehicle like the sweatshirt you probably won't need.

Would somebody who owns one please explain the category "truck gun" to me? Don't get me wrong, I'm completely in favor of people being as heavily armed as they want to be. I just don't understand the threat model that leads to people having a specific gun that they specifically carry in their truck. I mean, as opposed to on their person. What do you use a truck gun for? Is there some epidemic of backroad banditry that needs to be suppressed? Are people driving with one hand and potting varmints with the other? What's actually going on here? Inquiring minds want to know.

FUN FACT: The official who was leading the probe of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer (Labor Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito) lost his U.S. House seat in 2024 amid reports that he had both his *mistress AND his fiancée's daughter* on his Congressional office payroll.

@kristoncapps Dog parks make for better dogs and better humans. Seriously cannot even understand this take. Dogs are not going away, and dog parks are where they learn to be decent citizens. I don't even understand your stance here. "Parks are bad. Humans should never attend a school." WTF?

As maybe the biggest dog person he knows, I agree with what Yglesias writes here. I don't think dog parks are a good use of public park space. I don't think people in cities should bring dogs to places that aren't specifically made for dogs and dog owners. It's a good take

@jadler1969 And he made money by selling the unboxed Lego bricks on the black market or something? How is that worth the effort? This some Joker shit, like the entire thing is basically an intellectual exercise to create chaos.

This is interesting. I fed ChatGPT a couple fragments from a fiction I never finished, and it suggested several writers who I don't think I've ever read. But when I gave it a chunk of my (nonfiction) book in progress, it fingered me right away.
Kelsey Piper@KelseyTuoc

I have a bunch of secret AI benchmarks I only reveal when they fall, and today one did. I give the AI 1000 words written by me and never published, and ask them who the author is. They generally give flattering wrong answers (see ChatGPT, below:)

It's so bizarre reading modern left discourse. People don't even discuss theory at this point. They participate in sub-cultural political fandoms where they root for their niche ideology like a sports team. The meaning of words is irrelevant. It's all performance now.
