@decoded_dev @Jackjoneslasi @SkyNews This is how the DWP work, exactly what has been said in the Timms review. Dehumanising and not fit for purpose, and you get people saying scroungers it makes me so angry, they have no idea of the reality that both he and I face every day.

@decoded_dev @Jackjoneslasi @SkyNews He couldn't face any more of the process, he has emotional lability due to the strokes, it was the not being believed that his life is so difficult would make his condition worse. Neither of us were prepared to take that risk.

Personal Independence Payments (PIP) are "not fit for purpose" and can create barriers to work, while the assessment process can be "dehumanising", a new report found trib.al/IXebgLn

@decoded_dev @Jackjoneslasi @SkyNews This is very similar to my husband who had a 2nd stroke at 59 then a tonic clonic seizure at 60. Got pip at first for mobility then got refused in 2025 as had no further seizures on reassessment, still has mobility problems but ignored by the dip, said they were limitations!

@PMurphy1978 Start by having competent assessors who actually know something about how your condition can affect you, then actually look at the medical evidence with understanding before ignoring it

Exactly this! This was said at the Call for Evidence.

Dear @stephenctimms You know the root of all the problems with #PIP stem from Private companies who assess people don’t you? The descriptors/points/criteria are not the main issue, the way they are interpreted/not interpreted/totally ignored or lied about by these companies is.

Calling Them Out. So the political establishment and media have consistently labelled Nigel as being a divisive out of touch figure. They play every card possible to assassinate his character and that of everyone involved with Reform UK. You can feel the hatred with the House of Commons towards not just Nigel but all Reform UK MPs. That does not bother us one bit as we know millions of people in the real world support us and what we stand for. The establishment are bullies that attack and attack but when the tables are turned they run away. Nigel has thrown down the gauntlet and told the other parties that he will meet them at the ballot box and every one of them has bottled it. We see you for the cowards you are. We are coming for all of you at every single ballot box in the country. Reform UK are the last hope to save our country from you treacherous cowards.

@sockbins @thelefttake The grooming gangs in Rochdale though were different to this. Not only were children not believed they were labelled 'slags' and the people in power were so afraid of being accused of racism it took years for any action to be taken. It is a stain that this was allowed to happen

@ktlee64 @thelefttake There is no doubt that the institutional failures of those in positions of care, over many years, have left a stain on the U.K. These failures have also created conditions that parties such as Reform and Restore have been able to exploit in order to gain support.

@sockbins @thelefttake Too many institutional failures both in positions of care and government failures to recognise them. This is just one example of many. It all needs so much work to regain trust to do the Right thing.

Here's my latest @spectator column, 'Shabir Ahmed is everything wrong with Britain' spectator.com/article/shabir… If you want to understand why the traditional mainstream parties struggle to gain support, and why Reform is leading the polls, one name will suffice: Shabir Ahmed. Ahmed will reportedly be released from prison this week, having served 14 years of a 19-year sentence for multiple counts of rape and sexual offences against girls. Ahmed is a Pakistani national (he was formerly a dual British-Pakistani citizen but his British citizenship was removed after his conviction). There will of course be anger that the leader of a Rochdale rape gang – who made his victims call him ‘Daddy’ – has been released five years early. But that anger is as nothing in the context of what will happen to Ahmed after his release, which is said to be happening tomorrow: nothing. Yes, nothing will happen to Ahmed once he is released. Other than having to conform to the usual licence conditions, including – but only for an initial period – living in supervised accommodation and being subject to an ‘exclusion zone’ centred on Rochdale, plus signing the sex offenders register for life, Ahmed will be free to do as he wishes. That is all despite Ahmed being a foreign national – a guest in our country. He has committed some of the worst crimes in its history but will suffer no adverse consequences from those crimes beyond a prison sentence from which he was released early and a few conditions after his release. According to Probation Service documents leaked this week, he will remain here because under the Immigration Act 1971 Ahmed ‘cannot’ be deported to Pakistan. Under that act, because he arrived here before 1973 and lived here for at least five years before his deportation was considered, his removal is barred. The details of his case are sickening. Ahmed is living proof that evil exists. But one does not need to know the full story of his depravity to understand the implications of the British state’s refusal to deport him. Because it is a refusal. It is a choice to keep him here. The law is not an abstract thing handed down to us over which no one has any say or control. The scandal that led the police and local authorities to turn their backs on the victims of rapists such as Ahmed is one of the most shocking and devastating in British history. But for all the attention focused on it now, the arms of the state have still not properly come to terms with the consequences. One of which is that it is unconscionable that any of the perpetrators who are foreign nationals should be offered the hospitality of our country. To say they ‘cannot’ be deported is itself more evidence of the depths and implications of this scandal. The law could be changed in a day if there was the political will do so. Parliament is sovereign. If it wishes to act, it can. If treaties prevent action, it is a deliberate, conscious choice to prioritise those treaties above justice. The choice has been made, and continues to be made, to do this. When the system means that the rights of a foreign national responsible for the mass rape of children are held to be more important than the rights of victims – and the rest of us – not to have to share our country with such people, it would be surprising were the parties that have been responsible for that system for decades not shunned. And when a party like Reform highlights this and promises to change that system, of course it is going to win support. Shabir Ahmed represents so much of what is wrong with a British state that will not deport foreign child rapists and that prioritises the rights of foreign criminals over the rights of British citizens to be protected from them. It is no wonder that it is not just Labour and the Conservatives in whom the public have lost faith, but the British state and institutions themselves.

@sockbins @thelefttake Well it has happened in Rochdale, this is why the likes of Reform and Restore have risen exponentially. This person screamed racism in court after targetting teenage white girls. I have no issue with immigration or race either but this is wrong!

@ktlee64 @thelefttake I am not sure how you could make it legal however, I can’t help but think sexual predators should not be able to return to the place where their victims still live, irrespective of their demographic. No victim should be put in a position where they can “bump into” their abuser.

@sockbins @thelefttake Agreed, as for all the others in Rochdale who have taken this route. Pressure needs to be put on Pakistan to take them back. We certainly don't want them in Rochdale, they've done too much harm to All communities

If he becomes PM, I actually expect Burnham to start deporting foreign criminals. Not because he wants to, but he knows Labour’s dead in the water if they don’t do something. This is simply too obvious low-hanging fruit to ignore.
Andy Burnham@andyburnham

Like everyone, I want this vile criminal out of the country. Victims must come first. I will ask the Home and Foreign Secretaries to review all possible options - and they should consider nothing is off the table. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
