The creators of SWE-Bench just dropped a really simple new benchmark every LLM gets 0% on. ProgramBench asks: can models recreate real executable programs (ffmpeg, SQLite, ripgrep) from scratch with no internet? We are far from saturated on model quality.

i'm trading two top-tier quant internships and my UIUC stats and CS degree to go all in on this. i'm building the bridge between institutional money and prediction markets. think vanguard for polymarket/kalshi. and an (extensive) execution layer API. imagine trading geopolitical instability like an index fund. spoken to wealth mgmt funds, prop trading firms, and excited retail traders.. all of them are asking for this. if any VC's or cracked builders wanna know more, hit my DMs.

Elon works like he is min-maxing a video game. These stories seem superhuman, but this is what millions of gamers do when they’re trying to level up their WoW character at 4am or climb a ladder. Why can so many people min-max video games to the extreme, yet be unable to apply the same method to real life? Why is it normal to grind in video games until 3am but unacceptable to grind until 3am when there are real stakes? The difference is the weight: real life has real consequences, and feeling this causes most people to get tired much faster. The “lightness” and lack of consequences of games allows us to engage them for long periods. I am guessing that one of @elonmusk’s secrets is that he has figured out how to make life feel more like a game, so that he can engage with it like one.
sourcery@sourceryy

.@ashleevance says @elonmusk "has no time zone." "We were at Neuralink filming something for a movie I'm making and were there until 1AM. Then he went straight from there back to xAI." "Then I had a friend who met with him at 4AM." "He lives life constantly like that."

There is no reason why Anthropic won't launch: - Its own hospitals - Its own chemical manufacturing (planned) - Its own bank (already started a trading arm) Labs become the Everything Economy. All white collar work is subsumed. All opportunity dies.
Raphael Schaad@raphaelschaad

MIT student asked a question earlier today that a lot of young founders are quietly wondering about: "Won’t the frontier labs just do everything?" Yes it's true that OAI/Ant are shipping at incredible pace, but it's quite easy to avoid their blast radius and build amazing startups: OpenAI is not going to build a cattle-herding drone, buy an old F-150 and drive from ranch to ranch like the founder of one of the fastest-growing YC W26 startups, Graze Mate. Anthropic is not going to integrate with dental insurance verification systems (Lance). Google is not going to navigate NATO procurement (Milliray). The value is in the last mile, not the model. Sales cycles require humans who understand the customer. And most importantly, the market is expanding, not shrinking: AI isn't cannibalizing the existing 1% software spend — it's unlocking the other 5-6% that was going to humans. That's a much bigger market for startups yet-to-be-founded than the one the labs are playing in. Now, what DOES seem risky? A thin UI layer on top of ChatGPT with no domain expertise; a general-purpose chatbot or assistant; or a product that gets obsolete when model capabilities improve. But — tools for specific industries; "full-stack" AI companies that actually are the service (AI law firm, AI accounting firm, AI uranium exploration company); or generally products where the customer doesn't want a tool but an outcome — are defensible ideas for startups.

Wolfgang Schadner, a Swiss quant, found the closed formula for the direct inversion of Black & Scholes option implied volatility ! Everyone has been using root search for ~50 years and his formula is fast. More elegant result, as no boundaries or starting value are required. You still need somewhat of a root search in the inverse Gaussian quantile, or use a smart approximation ;) Then it is down to single digit microseconds. w-schadner.com
