@PadhegaIndia_ @AbhinavAgarwal Not only that - apart from being a prolific author and a custodian of such an inspiring initiative, he is also a passionate Mahabharata enthusiast. So, for anyone interested, Abhinav ji also has a thread on books related to the #Mahabharata. x.com/AbhinavAgarwal…
Abhinav Agarwal@AbhinavAgarwal

🧵 Starting a thread of book reviews I have written over the years. Let's start with, what else, the Mahabharata! 1️⃣The Mahabharata: Volume 1, translated by Bibek Debroy @BibekDebroy (sir) did an English translation of the unabridged Critical Edition of the Mahabharata from BORI @BhandarkarI (Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute), and was published by @PenguinIndia from 2010 to 2014. They did a boxed set a few years later, and most recently, came out with a hardcover boxed set. I titled my review of the first volume, "A strong start to a marathon..." This is what I had written about Bibek da: "Bibek Debroy, the translator, is an economist with a difference. How so? Well, consider this. In the early 1980s, while at the Presidency College in Kolkata, the author wrote a paper where he did a "statistical test on the frequency with which the five Pandavas used various weapons in the Kurukshetra war." Yes. Different." (Hardcover boxed set, brought out by Penguin, 2024) And about the first volume: "This first volume contains most of the Adi Parva - "90 percent of Adi Parva", and contains 199 chapters and a little less than 6,500 shlokas. It contains 15 parvas (as per the 100 parva classification), and a little less than the entire Adi Parva (as per the 18-parva classification), and ends with the Rajya-labha Parvav (as per the 100-parva classification)" Remember the idiom, "Child is the father of man", from William Wordsworth's 19th Century poem? Well, it turns out Vyasa had expressed the same, but a few thousand years earlier. भस्त्रा माता पितुः पुत्रो येन जातः स एव सः "Born from the father, the son is the father himself." —[1.69.32] Shakuntala to Dushyanta The first volume itself had started to bust some longstanding myths about incidents. I wrote: "In the critical edition, there is no mention that Droupadi forbade Karna from attempting to string the bow at her swayamvar. Later, in the second volume, we read that it was not Droupadi but the other Pandavas that laughed aloud at Duryodhana's missteps in the Maya Sabha at Indraprastha." (Box set from Penguin) blog.abhinavagarwal.net/2012/03/mahabh… You can get the set from @PadhegaIndia_ padhegaindia.in/product/the-ma… and other online and offline retailers.

Contribution of Shri @AbhinavAgarwal towards Indic literary space remains unprecedented and unmatched. We have witnessed his unwavering support to Authors and Organisations first hand. We are blessed to know him and have his blessings & support. Our best wishes and gratitude 🙏
INDICA@IndicaOrg

Over the years, under the stewardship of Shri @AbhinavAgarwal INDICA has worked to nurture writers, support first-time authors, and ensure that meaningful Indic voices reach wider audiences. From publishing grants and underwriting pathbreaking works to supporting global book launches and influencer outreach, the effort has always been to strengthen the ecosystem around ideas and storytelling. Some milestones from this journey: • 238 Publishing Grants with Notion Press for first-time authors • Underwriting support for unique works such as Vritrahan, Sankarayanam, and Vedic Mindfulness • Distribution of 35,000 copies of books by 300+ authors to influencers and public personalities • 150+ global multi-city book launches • 30+ online book launches connecting authors with readers worldwide Behind every number is a writer who found encouragement, a reader who discovered a new perspective, and a conversation that entered the public sphere. The Indic knowledge tradition has always thrived through transmission - from teacher to student, storyteller to listener, and author to reader. Supporting books and authors is part of sustaining that living continuum. Read more about this impactful journey in Abhinav ji's own words: indica.in/status-report-…

I’ve stayed across cities and countries but Delhi landlords genuinely need to be studied. The rents are touching the sky, deposits are insane, maintenance is separate and still some landlord sitting comfortably in Gurgaon talks to tenants like you’re some billionaire heir who should manage plumbers, motors, water crises, electricians and mental breakdowns all by yourself. You pay on time every single month, but the moment there’s an actual issue, the accountability disappears. Pure mental harassment. No wonder every Delhi/Gurgaon Reddit thread is filled with tenant horror stories.

Victory was achieved thru elections. By making sure the poll participation % is a national record. Forces were deployed to make sure that there is no post/pre-poll violence for fear-free elections. (almost everyone said this ON RECORD). That's exactly what democracy is.
Sundeep Sharma@sundeepshawarma

BJP ki sabse badee jeet ye hai ki bahut badee sankhya me log unki jeet ko apni jeet samajhte hain Lekin sabse badee chinta ye hai ki yehi log jaante bhi hain ki jeet kaisa haasil huee hai and they are okay with that. This being okay is not okay for democracy.

@ayusshsanghi If a couple did not decide to have kids, and for whatever reason, how is it someone's business to pass moral judgment?

My cousin staying in BLR is married for 15 years and had decided early on to not have kids. Carrying the DINK title in urban metros till 2020 was really cool (don’t know the status now). And now, the couple in their early 40’s are not able to have kids, IVF is painful and scary and natural conception is just not possible at this age. Boomers were absolutely correct with their timelines in life. Millennials have screwed it. Let’s see what Gen Z’s do. Meanwhile I have a 3 year old son, smart but extremely naughty. I really don’t know how my wife and my life would’ve been without him. Let certain things go as per nature. Disclaimer: 1. To all the idiots claiming population pressure on the planet. That is primarily because of dis balanced reproduction in certain parts of the world. Your not having one/ two kids will neither add/ subtract that population growth. Even if you don’t have kids, planet will still be burdened by population in some corner. 2. As for expenses, make your lifestyle choices wisely. Don’t upgrade it unnecessarily. You have funds to do a vacation but not fund a child’s annual education is an extremely selfish reason. Offer: I can plan your help expenses according to the number of kids you have and the city you live in. This service is free. 3. If you don’t want to have kids then don’t blame it on expensive education and high cost of upbringing. Just say for “our selfish reasons.” Dont give useless reasons. 4. As for one person in a marriage, who doesn’t want to have kids, the other one should run immediately. Don’t suffer because of him/ her. #peace #proudfather

@Tushar15 100 majority M seats - 80-95% TMC BJP could retain 77 seats 45 - BJP needs 90% strike rate 53 - close call seats and will be decisive. A good multi-variate analysis based on past trends and current information.
