@Clint_Davey1 Even saying that Catholic church is the whore of Babylon, the Protestant stole from Catholics. Dante says it in Divine Comedy. Context matters tho.

I think its very hard to be neutral about the Catholic Church once you actually learn about it. You could say it's the kingdom of God on earth, the universal Messianic empire that includes all nations and has brought the Gospel to billions. But then you need to join it. Or you can say its the ultimate in idolatry, whore of Babylon, etc. Hard to say it's just another denomination. The sheer scale of the thing, and the radically distinctive nature of its claims, means it's not in the same category as anything else. This is why Chesterton says its impossible to sit on the fence once you start researching Catholicism. You end up hating it or joining it.

I mean believing the Pope is the antichrist and the Church of Rome is the whore of Babylon is table stakes even for classical Protestantism, let alone weird American restorationist movements. One success of the ecumenical movement, if you can call it that, actually has been that many Protestants don't believe those things about us anymore

@CraigOnan I know, that's why I meant it shouldn't make you question Catholicism. It should make them question their Catholicism. It worked with me when I was grumpy with Pope Francis. Had to realise that my position was essentially Protestantism.

@kwchylinski @KyleMau I’ve family members with kids in school in germany, France, UK and Netherlands…horror stories: old buildings, understaffed, overrun, 70%+ don’t speak local language, violence…that’s clearly not the case in PL.

After 3 years living in Poland I can honestly say I have very few good things to say about the place. Most Westerners visiting would be impressed. It is safe. Clean, not really. Nice enough of course in many ways. But living? Getting things done? Actually conducting business and making a life? Forget it, I'd rather pull my own nails out.

@CraigOnan Sedevacantism isn't real If catholicism is true then sedevacantism is a logical impossibility If catholicism is false then sedevacantism is an impossibility because there never was a chair of Peter

What a crazy world, the post-Francis fallout still continues to confuse and cause hurt.
Father João Silveira@joaosilveiraaa

Today, the Mass was denied to me in Ávila (Spain). I am the chaplain of a pilgrimage group from the United States. This pilgrims usually attend the Traditional Latin Mass, so they wanted to be accompanied by a priest who would celebrate in the Old Rite. We had the chapel booked, but we were told that this rite required authorization from the Bishop. I went to the Episcopal Curia to request the authorization, so the Mass could take place. However, the Bishop, not to me personally, but through the Vicar General, categorically stated: “That Mass is prohibited in this diocese.” Prohibited why? And by what authority? Has this rite been abrogated? I was going to celebrate it in a chapel with the group of pilgrims. What harm could possibly come to the world? The rite is exactly the same one used in the convents of the Discalced Carmelites, stemming from the reform of Saint Teresa of Ávila and Saint John of the Cross. The rite was good for those great saints, but now it is bad for us? The Code of Canon Law - Canon 932 §1 - prohibits Masses outside of sacred places, except in cases of necessity: “The Eucharistic celebration must be carried out in a sacred place unless, in a particular case, necessity requires otherwise; in that case, it must be celebrated in a decent place.” In this case, there was no necessity to celebrate the Mass in a hotel room, since we were surrounded by chapels and churches with beautiful altars (that are almost never used). The necessity was created by the Bishop himself, who, instead of promoting sacred things, decided to prohibit them. Who benefited from the Mass being celebrated in a profane place? Was Our Lord more praised in a hotel room than He would have been in a church? Were the souls of the faithful more edified by seeing a table serving as an altar? It is normal for people to be scandalized by these tyrannical and anti-pastoral decisions, especially from those who claim that everyone is welcome in the Church. But not everyone is. That is quite clear. I have gone through several similar episodes before and remained silent. But this must be denounced, this cannot be the normal state of the Church. Pope Leo must act quickly to put an end to these abuses of authority.

@theAuntieAngie there’s a difference between when someone openly says that they identify as another gender and openly disrespecting a black woman because you don’t agree with what she says. they’re are trying to disrespect her by calling her a man and everyone knows that’s.

Dear Black Community, I was outraged when President Trump shared an image depicting Michelle Obama as a monkey. I viewed that as offensive and wrong. But a UFC fighter calling Michelle Obama a man? That doesn’t trigger the same reaction from me. Why? Because the Obamas were among the most influential voices pushing the idea that gender identity can override biological sex. They helped normalize the belief that people can identify as a gender different from the one they were born as. So when the same framework gets applied in a way they may not like, I’m struggling to understand the outrage. You don’t get to tell the world that gender is fluid one day and then demand strict biological definitions the next. Whether you agree or disagree with that argument, these are the cultural rules that were put into motion. The Obamas helped make the bed. Now they’re lying in it.

@oxidexe @AGCast4 That's why I said it's not all, but, at least in UK, there's the loud minority, that will literally demand supermarkets to be stacked in a certain way, so halal doesn't even get close to pork. Supermarkets obviously cave, because they don't want to lose customers.

@KyleMau Disagree. Straight forward tax system, highly digitalized environment, investments in infrastructure, good schooling system. Mountains, lakes and seaside, very clean, low on crime. It surely can compete, but of course everybody has different preferences.

So if a Catholic never commits a mortal sin, such that their venial sins are forgiven though communion, is it nonetheless a mortal sin for them not to go to confession once a year?

@CatholicSat So many people would be descendants of people so long ago, this is basically hogwash. The way genetics works, everyone alive today in Europe and America are descendants of everyone alive in Europe around 1000 AD, who had offspring. All human beings are cousins.

Pope Leo XIV in the Canary Islands has received a genealogical family tree detailing his ancestors linked to the islands. The Pope looks absolutely delighted by such a great gift. The work reconstructs the history of two families, the González Vázquez and the Hernández Pérez, established in Santa Cruz de La Palma during the 16th and 17th centuries, linked to fishing and the La Asomada neighborhood. The family tree highlights the union of these two family branches through the marriage of Gaspar González and María Pérez, celebrated on January 5, 1614, at the parish of El Salvador in Santa Cruz de La Palma. From this marriage, Juan González Vázquez was born, who later emigrated to Cuba, from whom Pope Leo XIV is descended.
