Has anyone in the so-called progressive Christian camp called on the Political Left to attenuate their extreme rhetoric?

@ShaneRaynor It’s high time we reclaimed a focus on the power of grace at work through the Holy Spirit. Reunite the Holiness and Pentecostal emphases of Purity and Power.

A Methodist can (and IMO should) freely seek the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pentecostalism came from Methodism (I think of it like a Methodism 2.0) and the charismatic movement has been vibrant within Methodist churches over the decades. Being filled with the Spirit shouldn’t be viewed as a merit badge, and we should avoid legalism and pressure when it comes to spiritual gifts. But they’re available and wonderful! I think of it like an expansion pack on a video game. Being regularly filled with the Spirit opens up new worlds and abilities for any Christian, including Methodists!

True: After Christianity, Islam is the only major world religion that deeply reveres Jesus Christ. The Qur’an praises him as the Messiah and “Word of God,” affirms his Virgin Birth, and recounts his miracles. Also, his mother Mary is the most revered woman in the whole Qur’an.

“The kind of religion that says you can treat people however you want as long as you have a personal relationship with Jesus is an abomination. Scripture says you can't love God and hate other people. You can't love God and abuse the immigrant. You can't love God and bully the outcast. You can't love God and oppress the poor. We spend so much time looking for God out there, that we miss God in the person sitting right next to us.” - James Talarico

@MethodMinistry That’s why I maintain that we have to do both evangelical and liturgical and do both well. At the risk of offending tee-totalers, I look at it like a good blended Irish whiskey. If done well, it’s approachable, rich, flavorful … and unique in its own right.

The United Methodist Church is done. There are still individual UM congregations that are solid theologically but couldn’t or wouldn’t disaffiliate for various reasons. They’ll find it increasingly difficult to grow as long they’re associated with a progressive brand name. Global Methodist churches will also experience this challenge on some level unless we take control of the Methodist narrative on social media and in the news media.
The Spectator@spectator

Over one million members of the United Methodist Church are estimated to have left since 2022. Many have left over the issue of homosexuality which threatens to tear the Church apart. Can it survive? And is Christianity entering a 'post-denominational era' in America? Mark Tooley joins Damian Thompson to discuss. @holysmoke | @markdtooley spectator.com/podcast/how-ho…

@Pontifex How is wealth “distributed” and what is the mechanism?

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

The Artemis II crew have now ventured farther away from the earth than any other humans in history. Yet, they are still within the loving embrace of our Creator. What a historic day!

I don’t know enough at this point to form an opinion, but I must say it’s delightful to hear the ACLU lawyer making a strong case for an Originalist interpretation of the Constitution. (14th Amendment).

@JohnYarmuth They don’t disagree with the constitution but rather how they consider this amendment has been misinterpreted and misapplied.

As we focus on birthright citizenship today, here’s what I want to know. Why hasn’t anyone who disagrees with the Constitution try to amend the 14th Amendment? Why hasn’t Trump proposed it?

I don’t know any Christian Nationalists. I don’t think there are many of them. But the so-called progressive Christians are obsessed with them on X.

🚨 White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt today: “Our nation was founded, almost 250 years ago, on Judeo-Christian values.” The Treaty of Tripoli. 1797. Signed by Founding Father John Adams. Ratified unanimously by the Senate: “The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” Thomas Jefferson — who wrote the Declaration of Independence — was a deist who literally cut the miracles out of his Bible. James Madison — the father of the Constitution — explicitly warned against the “diabolical hell conceived principle of persecution” by state religion. The First Amendment’s opening words: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” They put it first.

@eJoelWatts @allenanalysis Sure.. human rights and dignity. Natural law and moral order. Religious liberty. The necessity of virtue. The founding principles were, for their time, quite liberal and grounded in the Gospel. Many miss this because they look at the past through the lens of presentism.
