"Since the beginning of the war, my family has been displaced four times," says Mohammad, 14, holding his brother, Khaled, 2. "This war has lasted for a long time, and I am afraid for Khaled." Gaza's children have endured unimaginable horrors. They need a ceasefire NOW.

Again and again.   The exodus continues.  The Israeli authorities continue to issue forced displacement orders also known as “evacuation orders”. This is forcing people in #Rafah to flee anywhere and everywhere.  Since the war began, most people in #Gaza have moved multiple times: on average once a month.  They desperately sought safety that they never found.  Some have no choice but to stay  in bombed out @UNRWA shelters.   The claim of “safe zones” is false and misleading.   No place is safe in #Gaza.  Period.
UNRWA@UNRWA

These photos are from today. Families and children, returning to @UNRWA schools in Khan Younis to seek "safety" and "shelter". The classrooms are torched. Walls are blown out. There is rubble everywhere. This situation is unfolding under the world's watch. Enough is enough.

Palestine has been granted expanded rights and privileges at the UN with overwhelming support. 143 nations voted in favour, with 9 against and 25 abstentions. Although upgraded, the new status does not allow Palestine to vote with the same rights as full member states.

"In over 30 years of studying and engaging with communities affected by displacement, I have never seen a shocking atrocity like this." Me neither. Shocking atrocity televised, day after day, rationalised and condoned by most western countries, and tolerated by most of the rest. What a shameful low we have reached. May the Palestinians forgive us for our ridiculous, pathetic inability to enforce Humanity and the Law supposed to protect it.

I am tired of trying to prove to the world that Palestinians are humans too. They are blowing up entire residential blocks killing countless women and children. The world needs to see what Israel did to children in Gaza on Eid al-Fitr. Don't stop talking about Gaza

.@WHO and partners went to Khan Younis yesterday to assess the health facilities there. The team described the destruction as "disproportionate to anything one can imagine". No building or road is intact, there is only rubble and dirt. Hostilities in the vicinity of a WHO warehouse have left it destroyed. Attacks and hostilities have left Nasser Medical Complex, Al-Amal and Al-Khair hospitals non-functional. These facilities have no oxygen supply, water, electricity or sewage system. The team saw that the Nasser Medical Complex warehouse - which supplies many hospitals in the south - was burning, and severely damaged. It is estimated that fire has destroyed the majority of supplies, including a substantial amount of essential medicines and medical and trauma supplies provided by WHO and partners. Until recently, Nasser was the backbone of the health system in the south of #Gaza. Al-Amal was one of the few hospitals offering services to mothers and children. Now they are mostly rubble. Hospital assets and equipment have been destroyed. Specialized medical devices, CT scanners, oxygen plants, generators and solar panels need to be assessed to determine if they can still function, once spare parts and engineering services become available. The team also visited Jordanian Field Hospital, which is minimally operational and receiving a limited number of patients, mostly walk-ins, and a few trauma patients. The once robust health system in Gaza is broken. WHO and partners stand ready to support reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, but we need a ceasefire. Nothing else can bring a lasting and humane outcome.

The Elders
The Elders@TheElders·
The Elders call for suspension of arms transfers to Israel to end Gaza atrocities. Click 'Show more' to read the statement in full. The Elders today call on political leaders who have influence to use their leverage to end Israel’s atrocities in Gaza by suspending arms sales, to secure the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas, and to compel the parties to commit to a permanent ceasefire and the two-state solution. All states providing arms to Israel - directly or indirectly - must suspend arms transfers in response to systematic violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza and across the occupied Palestinian territories. Israel’s obstruction of humanitarian assistance into Gaza is unlawful and is causing unprecedented levels of catastrophic hunger, with famine in northern Gaza now imminent. Use of this leverage is also imperative to deter a calamitous ground assault in Rafah, and signal that the disproportionate approach taken by Israel is not supported by its allies. In this regard, the Elders welcome the recent decision by the Government of Canada to suspend future arms sales to Israel.  As Israel’s closest ally and its largest provider of arms, the United States of America must lead the way. National Security Memorandum 20 issued in February was an important development, but we are deeply concerned that the Biden administration continues to approve arms transfers, appearing to accept Israel’s assurances on compliance with its legal obligations as credible, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  Countries providing arms to Israel cannot legitimately claim that violations of international humanitarian law are not taking place, or that they supplied arms without this knowledge. The provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice on 26 January and 28 March should be a wake-up call. But Israel continues to act with impunity, and the scale of human suffering in Gaza continues to increase. Those providing arms are complicit, and need to be held accountable.      We also condemn the continued holding of hostages by Hamas, and its indiscriminate attacks on Israel. These are ongoing and systematic violations of international humanitarian law which contribute to the cycle of insecurity and violence. Iran in particular must use its influence to compel Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups to end such violations and immediately release all hostages, and to help de-escalate tensions across the region. The wilful disregard by Israel and Hamas for the agreed norms that govern the conduct of war has wider consequences for the international rule of law. The Elders believe it is critical that the International Criminal Court accelerate its investigation. States parties to the ICC must provide the financial and political support needed to fully resource the Court’s global work, regardless of geo-political affiliation with those under investigation. More broadly, all those with influence on the parties should back diplomacy with action, by using the full range of political, legal and financial levers at their disposal. This includes targeted sanctions to address state-sponsored settler violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank, building on the commendable steps already taken by the Biden administration. The EU’s Association Agreement with Israel, and the financial and political leverage of Arab states, should also be brought to bear to help compel a change of course in the region.  Nearly six months after the shocking attacks of 7 October, the Elders reiterate their call for an immediate ceasefire, and the full implementation of all relevant Security Council Resolutions. To suggest that such resolutions are non-binding is irresponsible, and further weakens an already ineffective Council. All member states are required to carry out the decisions of the Security Council, in line with Article 25 of the UN Charter. The Elders further reiterate their call for an inclusive coalition for peace that can lay out a political pathway to end Israel’s decades-long occupation and permanently resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is the only way to guarantee peace, security and human rights for Palestinians and Israelis alike. Read online and download here: theelders.org/news/elders-ca…
