Judiciary Uganda@JudiciaryUG·
This morning the Judicial Training Institute, in collaboration with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Registry, rolled out a two- day Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) training for AJS and ADR practitioners across Northern Uganda, with key engagements taking place in Gulu and Lira. Presiding at the trainings is the Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo. The sessions are convening Judicial Officers, administration of justice actors, cultural and religious leaders, as well as civic leaders, providing a platform for capacity-building, knowledge sharing, and public engagement on the role of AJS and ADR in enhancing access to justice and reducing case backlog. The trainings also incorporate an overview and dissemination of the Judicature (Court Annexed Mediation) Rules, 2026 (S.I No. 14 of 2026) to ensure a clear and uniform understanding of the framework. Today’s training is taking place in Gulu at Acholi Inn Hotel. The faculty includes; Justice Richard Buteera, Deputy Chief Justice Emeritus, Justice Phillip Odoki, Resident Judge Gulu, Mr. Francis Atoke, former Solicitor General , and Dr. Henry Onoria, ALP Advocates. Also in attendance are Justice Prof. Andrew Khaukha, Registrars and judicial officers, including HW Justine Atukwasa (Registrar ADR Registry), JTI, HW Lillian Bucyana in-charge JTI, HW Nakibuule Gladys Kisekka, Deputy Registrar JTI, HW Godfrey Kaweesa, Deputy Registrar ADR, HW Dr Daniel Lubowa, Assistant Registrar, Mediation Registry magistrates attached to the ADR and JTI registries, and HW Edger Nyakairu, Personal Assistant to the Principal Judge. The training is being moderated by HW Bucyana. This rollout forms part of the Judiciary’s broader strategy to enhance access to justice, and promote faster, people-centered dispute resolution

When someone asks you how Zinedine Zidane played football in his day, show them this pass. 😮‍💨 Lilian Thuram really denied us of one of the all-time great assists. 😳

That's why Mzee @KagutaMuseveni will always visit Kenya while equipped. You can never do this to a Head of State in Uganda. How do you...? The SFC boys are sharp shooters; they will explain later.

Big changes are coming to Uganda’s SACCO sector, and they matter to millions of Ugandans. In the next episode of BoU Connects, we sit down with Mr. Aomu Mackay, Director of Non-Bank Financial Institutions at Bank of Uganda (BoU), to unpack what the licensing and supervision of large SACCOs under BoU’s mandate means for savers, borrowers, SACCO members, and the wider economy. This is more than regulatory housekeeping. It is a structural shift in how cooperative finance is governed, strengthened, and protected in Uganda. Watch the trailer now and set your reminders for Thursday April 30, 2026! #BOUConnects

Great effort to shaping the business sector, Financial leasing has often been confused with hire purchase, property lease and property loan.
Silver Kayondo@SilverKayondo

The Supreme Court of #Uganda has given guidance on #finance leasing. For a while now, there has been jurisprudential confusion on operating and financial (capital) leases on one hand and hire purchase on the other. #Credit #leasing #HirePurchase #banking

I made a deliberate decision not to contest for a second term and it’s not because I was constrained in any way, but because I believe leadership, at every level, must be guided by principle. Many may not consider UOX a “serious” platform that requires “serious” leadership. But leadership is leadership. The impact, no matter how small it is matters. In fact, it is these small spaces that shape how we handle the bigger, more formal responsibilities. Democracy should not be reserved for high offices alone. Wherever there is an electorate, whether large or small, democracy must be respected. If we misuse trust in these smaller spaces, we cannot expect to be trusted with greater responsibility. That is why the situation involving Isaac Ssemakadde at the ULS has troubled me for a long time. When his term ended last year, the very individuals who claim to champion the rule of law disregarded its most basic principles. They found a way to remain in office, promising elections within six months and those months passed, and it became business as usual. How then does one retain the moral authority to speak about the rule of law or democracy under such circumstances? How can a body of legal minds, the custodians of justice, be led in a manner that contradicts the very principles they are meant to uphold? How did we allow this to happen? While one finger points at Museveni, the rest of the fingers are pointing at us. Shame on us!
