@RonaldNHughes @Tom_D_B_ I give you that, but the Byrds version didn’t age very well, it feels like a 60s song, unlike Dylan’s. It feels atemporal.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the Byrds’ is bad, it was a very relevant song. I just prefer Dylan’s.
The good part is that we can enjoy both.

A hill I will happily die on is that “Bob Dylan can’t sing” and “Bob Dylan’s songs sound better sung by other people” are very reliable indicators of someone who, at a fundamental level, just doesn’t understand art.

It's amazing his fan boys want to argue this. His voice sucks so bad that numerous of his songs became big hits when other singers who COULD sing recorded them and his lousy voice was removed!

@RonaldNHughes @Tom_D_B_ It doesn’t. The Byrds’ version sounds like a generic song, nothing special about it. Dylan’s version is like a trip, it drives you through the lyrics, you can feel it.

@Tom_D_B_ Dylan’s voice sounds good on some songs but in general he was a better songwriter than singer. Mr. Tambourine Man, for one, *definitely* sounds better sung by the Byrds than by Bob Dylan. I was a professional musician for over 20 years. Don’t tell me I don’t understand art.

Bob Dylan, who turns 85 today, is a fine lyricist, put out a few very decent records, and is one of the worst singers ever to hit the top 5.
The Byrds got to number 1 with Mr. Tambourine Man (a good song!) because he couldn't sing and they could.
