America has become a distressingly low-trust society—even in semi-rural New Hampshire. People in these parts are serious about this kind of stuff. These kids will be identified by the end of the day and their gooses cooked (for a few weeks at least). youtube.com/watch?v=DUiA-c…

@BuschPhysics @AsraNomani also, it's publicly known that he sold a company in 2017 for $785 million. given the massive returns on equities (and real estate) in the decade since, it seems almost certain that he's a billionaire by now, even accounting for the money he's funded to lefty "non-profits."

@AsraNomani I think it’s funny Hassan has to clarify the person supporting him is a centi-millionaire and not a billionaire so his dumb followers wouldn’t sperg out about the arbitrary distinction

On Twitch just now, Marxist Hasan Piker makes an important admission: he says American Marxist pro-China tycoon Neville Roy Singham has funded a "political movement" in the US. That's a significant characterization. PIker went to Cuba as part of a convoy organized by nonprofits funded by Singham. As I've reported @FoxNews Digital, SIngham has pumped $285M since 2017 into pro-communist nonprofits, including CodePink, which is also facing Treasury Department scrutiny for possibly violating sanctions against the Communist Party of Cuba. The groups that Singham has funded are 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) NONPROFITS that ARE NOT supposed be part of "political movements" but have clearly been politically motivated, supporting candidates, protesting administration (both Dem and Republican) policies and messaging consistently anti-US political positions. Piker claims "the goal" of a probe into his Cuba trip isn't him but Singham. He speak about Singham as friends call him: "Roy Singham." "He's been a funding vehicle for a lot of like political, uh, a lot of political movements in the country, a lot of activism...They're trying to jam him up....That's it. That's the goal here....They get to chill speech." Piker says Trump Administration national security advisor Sebastian Gorka is "behind" the scrutiny. He didn't provide evidence. Follow @FoxNews for coverage of this issue -- why does it matter? Because these "political movements" are changing the dynamics in America, promoting the propaganda of America's adversaries.

@theramblingfool we have been "shopping" for a home for ~5 years now, and over that time have considered various tear-downs and a couple empty lots. build costs here (San Diego) are between $300 and $500 per sq ft, depending on finish quality. now do the math for a 2k sq ft home... 🤦

I am YIMBY and all, but I do wonder how much of a solution that really is. Yes, we should build houses, but you won't like the prices.
Russell@theramblingfool

@Empty_America I just had a plumbing company destroy half my house, and seeing the labor costs just to redo rooms within an existing structure makes me wonder how houses could be priced what they are. It seems like, near me, it would cost twice as much to build a house, probably worse quality.

Dude, if we get actually good mechanized picked tea, it's gonna be a gamechanger. The American south will absolutely wreck global tea production. The labor cost bottleneck has been prohibitive for American tea, and using a cutter to harvest is a big quality loss. An actual leaf-plucker robot would allow capital-deep American farmers to get in the game on a crop which is extremely well-suited to the climate of the southeast-- so much so that its close genetic relative, the camellia flowers, grows wild without assistance!
People's Daily, China@PDChina

A humanoid robot is learning to pick tender tea leaves under the guidance of workers at a West Lake Longjing tea plantation in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province. With AI recognition models and algorithms, the robot is capable of identifying and locating leaves that meet harvesting standards.

@North2North Everyone has to go on a cruise once and then you’ll realize it’s overrated. Just like visiting New Orleans or Atlantic City, there’s no reason to go back.

@dilanesper I've literally seen people confidently assert that the reason the High Speed Rail has been such a quagmire must be because it threatens some endangered frog, or traverses a protected Native American burial ground. that kind of shit just poisons the discourse.

@dilanesper very eye-opening piece! and i think there's an additional cost: people see this failure and, because they don't understand the Tehachapi Problem, it feeds the false narrative that liberal jurisdictions like California can't build anything "because of regulations."

The truly sad and farcical thing about the $200 billion high speed rail cost estimate is that the opponents of the ballot measure originally said "the costs are lowballed, this will cost $90 billion". Even the opponents weren't able to imagine what a boondoggle it was.

@ChuckFlay really feels like a significant hit to asset values right now is one of the best things that could happen to us as a society (and i say this as a homeowner and from a household that owns a lot of stock).

@conorsen @talmonsmith and the ~50% who owned homes before the pandemic but don't own a lot of stocks are just ignoring that their homes went up in value by an average of over 50% (and they were able to re-fi at 3% during that time as well)? they aren't the ones i feel much sympathy for.

@talmonsmith 65% of households are homeowners, but only 10% of households have most financial market wealth, so an environment where stocks are going up a lot but housing/real incomes are flattish means 90% of people feel like they’re stagnant while watching stocks soar.

@MichaelRay02835 @dilanesper Soul Bossa Nova is a classic, and Michael Jackson's P.Y.T. is another of his greats. And who doesn't love the Sanford and Son and Fresh Price of Bel-Air theme songs!

Bob Dylan, who turns 85 today, is a fine lyricist, put out a few very decent records, and is one of the worst singers ever to hit the top 5. The Byrds got to number 1 with Mr. Tambourine Man (a good song!) because he couldn't sing and they could.
