The London Criminal Courts Solicitors' Association (LCCSA) , representing criminal solicitors for 70 years

Tomorrow Tuesday 10 March 9am Parliament will hold the Second Reading of the Courts and Tribunals Bill 2026. The London Criminal Courts Solicitors' Association (@lccsa) have organised a gathering outside Parliament to lobby MPs and ensure that the united voice of the criminal law community is heard loud and clear - at 9am, Parliament Square. The LCCSA is urging colleagues from across the professions to join them. Barristers, legal academics and others are welcome to attend and stand together with our colleagues in opposition to the Government’s misguided plan to curtail rights to Trial by Jury, and demonstrate our shared commitment to protecting fundamental rights and the integrity of the criminal justice system. Criminal firms warn the Lord Chancellor that applications for new crime contracts should not be seen as an indication that firms will continue to provide criminal defence services if funding commitments are not met. "We fully expect that the majority of firms undertaking criminal legal aid work will preserve their position by submitting a tender for the new contract. However, there is a huge difference between submitting a tender as a result of an artificially swift deadline imposed by the Ministry of Justice and actually seeking and ultimately signing a new contract in 2025. Whether firms decide it is financially viable to continue to provide legally aided criminal defence services, and accept the contract offer, or maintain a contract for more than a short period is wholly dependent on whether the new government heeds the warnings of the profession and the High Court. We look to the new government to restore rates to a level which will ensure a sustainable future for the profession" crimeline.co.uk/wp-content/upl…
