🚨 New in @NatureComms! While many studies show that negativity drives online virality, we find that predictors of what people like and share can change over time, with ingroup solidarity showing significant viral potential during the war in Ukraine. (1/6) nature.com/articles/s4146…

The times (in behavioural sciences) they are a-changin'. Recent contributions in cognitive science and economics show a renewed interest in going beyond 'biases' and viewing the sometimes puzzling features of human cognition as solutions to the complex problems we face.

Now out in PNAS Nexus 🚨 People in the U.S. believe that political opponents accept blatant moral wrongs, like fraud, animal abuse, and homicide. This fuels dehumanization across party lines. academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/arti…

@rubenarslan @CameronBrick It was a more substantial part of previous drafts, but TICs wanted a really sharp / focused piece for this format, so we only have this reference in one of the boxes "especially given the limited estimates of the impact of interventions [14]" but that was also a motivator for us!

@CameronBrick I agree with the proposal, but I'm surprised you don't mention the poor replication record of many of the 'lol [other] people are irrational' studies (priming, nudging, subliminal influence, backfire etc. etc.)

New paper 😃 With @CameronBrick, @leedewit and others, we argue behavioural sciences too frequently jump to conclusions of irrationality and bias - instead, we argue we should initially assume people are reasonable as a point of departure. @LSE_PBS shorturl.at/Z93O2

Curious how much Starmer and Corbyn supporters dislike each other? Do anti-Trump republicans sometimes dislike pro-Trump republicans more than bi-partisan Democrats? Read our new paper on Within Party Affective Polarization to find out!
David Young@David_JYoung

Delighted my **first paper**, with @leedewit, has now been published in Political Psychology! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/po… We explore the scale of affective polarization between *factions within parties* - which turns out to be pretty big! For a no-paywall version head to... (1/2)

@TheNewsAgents @lewis_goodall @Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl @GlobalPlayer Great analysis on Tory right's misunderstanding of social conservative. But another key element is that Corbyn's 2019 labour party misunderstood them too, whereas Keir's labour party knows how to talk to them, hence Keir's focus on Suella causing chaos and "being out of control".
