In a crowded field, Dr Shola is one of my least favourite commentators. That's mainly because she rarely does any actual commenting. All she does is film her smirking reactions to people expressing low-status views. It's the purest expression of Fashionable Opinion Privilege.

Another fantastic #BattleFest North speech👇 "There isn't gonna be a Northern Renaissance - there's not a chance. However many reports are written and however many speeches are made by Andy Burnham" @SimonMagus on "Economic growth: will there be a Northern Renaissance?"

well the fact that we are here suggests an infinite source of something but how do we have infinite energy in a universe where everything ultimately decays and dies and not only that but even if nothing was impossible why is this something so specific in purpose and so convenient, why if this something/energy is infinite created other forms of energy without a will in the first place, a soup of infinite energy? a billion of coincidences that seem to lead to one main conclusion, conscious entities experiencing life, everything else dead and irrelevant in comparison, that is very specific in this infinity of whatever and I don't know if that's convincing enough to you as an answer but not me

@teh__oracle @nobodyexpresses @Kekius_Sage Beginning is a subjective concept - time can start and stop and negate the word ‘before’. If you mean why is there anything, it seems there might actually be everything, expressed across many dimensions. Rather than why is anything possible, how could nothing be possible?

@nobodyexpresses @Kekius_Sage forget I said God since you're so sensitive, the problem you have with this infinite turd theory is you have to now explain how the universe began infinite amount of times instead of once

Agree with the contents or not, this is outstanding from the Tories - explicitly setting out a swathe of laws they would repeal, and new laws they would pass, if in power. A clear determination to avoid Starmer's mistake of arriving in No. 10 without even the glimmer of a plan.

A lot of noise about Starmer, but I remain convinced that the majority of the people saying he needs to leave have no idea why they actually feel that way. They just feel that way because a lot of the media tell them to do so. Really quite depressing, to be honest.

@JamesCleverly This guy called Steve Baker a c**t. His judge of character and of reality is deeply questionable, even for a C4 presenter.

@SteveBakerFRSA Is that bad though? Some of items in the legislative pipeline are batshit crazy and not one of them will boost growth or individual liberty. Sand in the gears and a spanner in the works please.

Britain's political problem is not "comms", and nor are we "ungovernable". We simply don't have politicians in place who are able to rise to the challenges we face. The problem does not lie with the voters, much as many seem to want to blame us/them.

@kokeshimum Or 5 years and 5 months for those who can count. A later and worse deal than it should have been for obvious reasons. Many would say it’s worth the 1% GDP lag to the eurozone since (plus outperforming Germany). Still too early for a referendum but I think it would fail.

The dribbling right wing simpletons with the “we didn’t get the Brexit we voted for” bollocks. It’s been 10 fucking years. TEN And they still tell us that Farage could make it work. Utterly fucking deranged.

@anainsin @LouiseS11293637 as someone who regretted not voting to exit: the risk UK establishment took in fighting the result materially harmed the deal we got (as well as being quite shameful). But it was always going to be a net negative for GDP. obvious trade-off. Referendum in 10 years is about right

Until someone bites the bullet, slashes spending, and does the difficult pro-growth reforms this country desperately needs, we will continue to have a ridiculous carousel of Prime Minsters. The truth is the Prime Minister could have survived the Mandelson scandal if people felt better off in their pockets. While there’s no growth, there’s no longevity of political tenure. Blair survived plenty of scandal, and plenty of Mandelson, ultimately because everything in life’s wider context didn’t feel so desperately shit. Until we have a political class brave enough to end the overspending, liberalise the labour market, and *actually* overhaul the planning system - we’re going to be stuck in this same psychodrama of doom.
