I haven't seen a single participant — not the young activists who went, not politicians like Ilhan Omar who support them — so much as pretend to pay any lip service to most basic, fundamental fact about Cuba: It is an authoritarian state. The ruling Communists are the only legal political party; all others are outlawed. All candidates for office are nominated by the party, most run unopposed, and many get 99% of the vote. There is not a shred of independent media. The country has over 1,000 political prisoners, including — to take one at random — a woman sentenced to 15 years in prison for streaming images of protests on Facebook. I'm confident that mainstream economists are correct that Cuba's Communist economy is responsible for its poverty, and that the U.S. embargo is at best an aggravating factor. But YOU DON'T HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT to acknowledge the most basic political reality about the country. And that's simply something you have to do, if you speak publicly about Cuba, and you want what you say to have any shred of legitimacy or moral authority.

I was explicitly named in that exhibit. That is not abstract expression - it is singling out an individual and placing a target on my back. I understand you have found no issue with this display. At a time when British Jews are facing escalating hostility and violence, that position shows an inexcusable disregard for our safety. I am not going to waste my time reporting this. Experience has taught me what to expect from British police. I have long understood the you are more interested in protecting the rights of those who spread Hamas propaganda - than those targeted by it But I will state publicly that your failure to act enables the very hatred that puts British Jews at risk. Totally cool to yell at a bully but I think the key flaw she made was transporting the bully to a second location prior to the lecture. Pretty simple mistake for a rookie.
