@SHombburg Rapid drops in the cost of renewable energy and global climate policies have made the massive expansion of coal required for RCP8.5 economically and politically implausible.
Understand? We are doing the right things!
The IPCC maintains 2.7°C to 3.0°C by 2100.

@JimSteeleSkepti @ChrisGloninger When/if Hanson is shown to be right, what will you say?
English

@ChrisGloninger What extreme dishonest bullshit is Gloninger now pushing saying "The last time a monster El Niño hit the whole world simultaneously was 1877." Simultaneously?!? That is a retarded statement!
English

James Hansen, the NASA scientist who first warned Congress about climate change in 1988, published a new paper this morning. His conclusion: 2026 is forecast to be the hottest year ever recorded in the entire history of instrumental temperature measurement. Not second hottest. The hottest. And he says 2027 will be hotter still, because the rate of global warming has literally doubled since 2015. The last time a monster El Niño hit the whole world simultaneously was 1877. Florence Nightingale wrote to the Lord Mayor of London calling it "the most hideous record of human suffering the world has ever seen." That was a natural event on a cooler planet with zero fossil fuel emissions baked into the baseline. We are not on that planet anymore.

@LLBiggers Here's a challenge for you Lucy:
check the IPCC reports predictions for the past 20 years, and tell us what they got wrong, and if you're really a believer in truth, list all the predictions they got right.
English

@KillerSmurf @LLBiggers That's true in the case of floating ice.
Gore was talking about melting ice that is on land.
English

@LLBiggers That is an absolute bullshit lie. Mr Wizard a personality from the 1970s TV show for children prove this to be a lie. When melting ice in a glass that was full to the top after 2 hours it was still the same level with the ice melted.

@onenzofficial Oh look, it’s next day and what’s this? Bearing in mind I’ve driven in to town 2 hours early, and start work at 3pm

English
@onenzofficial - your Dunedin store team needs a refresher in customer service. After not being served yesterday because of closing time, got told to come in today at 1pm. Sign on the door saying closed for staff breaks until 2pm due to staff shortage. Then sign amended to 2:30pm

The current Southwest Pacific wind flow map is showing several active low-pressure systems. Nothing new of concern for NZ for now but followers from the tropics need to keep an eye on 2 of these systems currently over Australian waters.
1. Ex-tropical low 94P now moving southward and deepening as a mid-latitude cyclonic cut off low between the South Island and Chatham Islands. This will bring showery and windy west to south-westerly over the upper North Island during the weekend.
2. Tropical cyclone 16P is becoming subtropical SE of New Caledonia steering along the subtropical ridge away from NZ waters. Its set to dissolve over the weekend as it meets hostile upper-level wind shear.
3. Tropical low 90P is over the Coral Sea being steered eastward along the subtropical ridge. It is currently in an neutral to unfavourable environment, but this could improve early next week around the Vanuatu, Fijian region.
4. Tropical low 92P over the Gulf of Carpentaria is a low chance it could develop near Far North Queensland early next week.
You can keep track of the tropical low 90P with daily updates and commentary on our website at haurakigulfweather.com/cyclone1

@LLBiggers What lot of FUD.
1) Point to anything the IPCC has got wrong and prove it.
2) Explain why the NW Passage is now navigable, why every glacier in the world is receding and why there are more wildfires than ever before.
3) What is your explanation for the above?
English

@MetService Excellent. Felt like we were flying blind there, for a while. Certainly needed. There seem to be more T/Storms than years back. Would a lightning rod work? Keep up the good work.

@JimSteeleSkepti Are you a robot?
My question was:
What is the mechanism for climate change?
English

Wow! Clearly you have no science background if you believe only CO2 can cause climate change. One major cause of change has been ENSO (El Nino/La Nina) that alters ocean currents and the transport of heat. Changing orbital forces are correlated with changes in ENSO (see graph). ENSO has been changing over the past 10 years, long before humans added CO2 Most of the temperature variability on the continents is due to the ventilation of ocean heat. The sun heats the oceans down to several meters, while CO2 merely adds heat to the upper few microns. So much more science you need to learn!

When Correlational Evidence: Good vs Bad
Correlations often lead to stupid conclusions but become harmful political weapons!
Today a jury unanimously convicted Abdi Fatah Yusuf guilty on overwhelming evidence of fraudulent claims that he bilked Medicaid for 7.2 million dollars via his home health company in Minnesota. After the jury's verdict a lefty judge reversed the decision claiming the evidence was just circumstantial and correlational.
Meanwhile based purely on correlational evidence lefty politicians claim rising CO2 is causing a climate crisis, and taxpayers have paid trillions to supposedly stop climate change, prompting government policies wanting to control what vehicles, stoves, heating devices people can own in the future, and what fertilizers farmers can use, etc ....
Correlations so often lead to really stupid conclusions but so often become harmful political weapons!
