@echetus The ‘brave men’ dysgenic-Europe theory is the ultimate American pseud litmus test. Genuinely baffling how many people believe/espouse it.

It would be interesting to write the history of the world wars as conceived of by 2020s internet personalities

@LemanWalters @ScottGoetz_ This interaction was the reason I followed you. I remember being impressed by how deftly and patiently you handled his willing obfuscation and smarm.

One of the worst characteristics of Americans is their inability to share their emotions. Not only does bottling up feelings lead to unintended rage, but this habit also bankrolls two of the worst groups in the world: e-hoes and therapists.

Finished. Excellent read. Crusaders, while brave, were mainly concerned with land, power and glory. Nietzsche is right to call them criminals. Not only did they fight other Christians and ally with Muslims, they also frequently fought each other — leading to their downfall.

@TBestig @LemanWalters @constans If your actual point is that post WW2, 4 million muslims just decided to move to a country 6000km away with less than a dozen mosques because they fancied it, then I’m not sure I can engage with you in good faith.

@lesclopes @LemanWalters @constans You keep repeating that because you think it sounds good, but you’re completely avoiding addressing my actual point here. Pretty rude of you, the other guy here is actually engaging with me honestly.

People are dragging her over this, but if you’re secular, you don’t have all these emotional attachments to the shifts of religious landscape and this changes are “just what happens” And in any case, churches sell their buildings to other religious communities all the time.
mary beard@wmarybeard

On the question of whether churches should be allowed to become mosques, let's remember that the Parthenon was originally a "pagan" temple, then was converted into a Christian church, then became a mosque. This kind of conversion is not historically unusual.

@lesclopes @LemanWalters @constans It was a pretty simple question, I’m asking how exactly you have concluded that “deliberate policy” is making Muslims want to live somewhere else.

@lesclopes @LemanWalters @constans You think that left to their own devices, Muslims would have never come up with the idea that they might want to live in the UK instead of the Middle East? They needed some outside influence to push them into making that discovery?

@LemanWalters @constans I find it interesting how the restrictionist ideology always resorts to describing immigration as “importing,” suggesting there is some top-down imposition, rather than engaging with the actual fact that people want to move to your country and attempt to do so unless forced.
