@Prigoose @zencephalon @__drewface @zencephalon the other thing is that we need to ask the city for permission, since the sidewalk is a public right of way - so even if we had buy in from the landlord, the city needs to permit a new rack (and apparently that takes a few months)

Algorithm is all friends and coordination again. Feels like we can go back to playing 2019-2022 style invitation games, "Hey what if we...?"

@liamdanielduffy The largest is what, Jacksonville? Did you include Alaska’s consolidated city-boroughs like Sitka?

@simonsarris NYC has elements of both London and Paris (is less old though), but with a lot of improv and main character energy. It’s the city that’s most like Twitter imo

The word "hackathon" helps to point people in a conceptually correct direction ("build things on the computer"), but for many people who haven't done this it connotatively points to "only come to this if you're a computer person, and we will all be at our computers coding for hours." There is a different word that means: - Come and see people do demos of things they've made with Claude, Codex, and other AI tools. - Come and hang out, eat snacks, meet cool people. - There will be many domain experts from non-tech backgrounds, and many tinkerers in others. - Come and get ideas about what you could build, even if you haven't built anything before. And not just *on* the computer, but *with* the computer (see Simba as a small, fun example: x.com/danielgolliher…) I'm not sure if that different word exists in a big way yet. But when I invite people from the government/civic realm to hackathons, they almost never feel excited at the prospect, or like they would fit. Then I describe the nature of the event, and they get interested. So I'm telling you: I want you to come to my/other events like this! You know too much not to share it with those who are building with AI tools! The people want to hear from you, hang out with you, learn about your work, and see how they can help it. Personally, I also want to welcome you to The Computer. I think it's faster than ever for a driven person to become acquainted with their machines in a way that was formerly denoted by years of training. "But I'm not a computer person." Truly, I do not believe you, and that's probably because we disagree about what "computer person" means. You 🫵 are a great New Yorker in any domain, and you are so very probably a computer person.
