Interesting and promising strategy here from @UAW. A few thoughts on what #StandUpUAW might be and why they're doing it. The sit-down strike tactics that worked in Flint in 1936-37 are now illegal (when workers come up with good ways to fight, they get made illegal). 1/

NEW: Delta is the last major airline without a flight attendants union—but not for long. Delta flight attendants have launched a massive union drive that would organize 22K workers with @AFA_CWA. They narrowly lost a union election in 2010 but say this time the tide has turned.

The Ann Arbor Glencoe store won't be missing this party. Welcome comrades!

NEWS: Two days before ballots are scheduled to go out in a high-stakes union election at Buffalo-area Starbucks, the company asks the NLRB to stay the election. nytimes.com/2021/11/08/bus…

Ratification meetings underway for Mercy Hospital #strikeCHS Big cheers for the landmark nurse-patient ratios achieved in this contract!! Big exercise in democracy: the bargaining cmte explains the details of the contract to 250 members/mtg, all day today, tmrw -who then vote

📢 When @nytimes management cancelled bargaining yesterday, it sparked an important conversation around open bargaining, a strategy we're committed to. Every member has the right to observe the negotiations over their contract. After all, it's the members who have to ratify it!

NEW: The fight to unionize Amazon and win a fair contract for UPS workers hinges on this election you probably haven’t heard of. The @Teamsters will elect new leadership for the first time in over two decades. The winner could determine the future of worker power in America.

@nyguild @NYTimesGuild @nytimes We are trying to reach agreement on important issues affecting people's lives. This is not how successful negotiating works. A group of 250 observers (20% of the union membership) stifles productive conversation. We want a negotiation, not a spectacle.

In this round of contract negotiations, our union team introduced two new innovations – union member working groups and open bargaining – that allowed all members to observe the bargaining process and to participate directly in the creation and decision-making around demands.
