Catholics will point to 2 Maccabees 12:39–46 as the scriptural basis for the doctrine of purgatory. What would be a good Protestant response? Protestants would first note that 2 Maccabees was not received as inspired Scripture within Judaism and was not universally recognized as canonical in the early church. But even setting the canonical question aside, the larger issue remains: does the doctrine of purgatory cohere with the whole of Scripture? When we step back and look at the full biblical witness, the answer is no. Scripture consistently teaches that Christ’s atoning work is complete and sufficient: •“The blood of Jesus… cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7); •“By a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified” (Heb 10:14); and, •“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). The idea of a post-death purification by fire implies that Christ’s work is not fully sufficient to deal with sin, and that something remains to be paid or purged. But the New Testament repeatedly affirms that Christ bore our sins fully and finally. Even in the passage cited, 2 Maccabees 12 describes prayers for the dead in a specific historical context. It does not clearly teach a developed doctrine of purgatory as later defined by Rome. It is a narrative, not a systematic doctrine. So the real question is this: Do we build doctrine on a disputed text, or on the clear and repeated teaching of Scripture that Christ’s work has fully accomplished our redemption?

No he’s not. Jesus Christ is the head of the whole Christian church, our Father in heaven is our holy Father, and the Holy Spirit is the teacher of all Christians. I use scripture to back my words. You do not. Jesus: Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Holy Spirit: 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all thingsand as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. Father: Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. HOLY FATHER: Jesus refers to my father in heaven as such 👇🏻 John 17:11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one."

Roman Catholicism and biblical Christianity have very little in common. Rome shares far more with the religious practices of the Pharisees: self-righteousness, man-made traditions, external rituals, superstitious practices, and human authority elevated above Scripture.

@SavvyTamz_57 Catholisism is a religion of it's own, it's not Christianity. I'm not saying Catholics can't be Christians but I sure hope they're praying to Jesus and not Mary, Peter or the pope. John 14:6

For all the Catholics who wrongly believe Jesus designated Peter as the first Pope: Wrong. See 1 Peter 5:1 written by Peter!😂🤣 Also, Paul publicly rebukes Peter in Gal. 2, which would never happen to an infallible head (Pope). Additionally, Peter was the apostle to the Jews, not Rome. Paul writes to the Romans in the book of Romans and never once mentions Peter being there or in charge. Jesus also repeats the exact same binding-and-loosing authority TO ALL OF HIS DISCIPLES in Matthew 18:18 that He does with just Peter in Matthew 16:19. Finally, it was Peter's CONFESSION in Matthew 16:16 that represented 'the Rock' that Jesus said He would build the Church on--NOT PETER THE MAN! THE REAL ROCK IS JESUS!👇 In 1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul writes, “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Paul calls Jesus the rock later in the same letter—1 Corinthians 10:4—saying the Israelites “drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, AND THE ROCK WAS CHRIST.” Well that was easy.😇

@FreeStateWill @mamboitaliano__ "The pope is the vicar of Christ on earth"... What does that even mean???! • Who Peter was: • A disciple and apostle of Jesus (Matthew 4:18-20, Mark 1:16-18). • Jesus famously said to him: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). This is often interpreted as Jesus founding the church on Peter’s confession of faith (that Jesus is the Messiah) or on Peter’s leadership role—not that Peter himself was the church. • Peter preached at Pentecost (Acts 2), performed miracles, and helped spread the gospel, especially to Jews and later Gentiles (Acts 10). • He wrote two letters in the New Testament: 1 Peter and 2 Peter. • He was a central figure in the early Christian community but remained a human apostle, not an institution. • What the “church” is in the Bible: • The word “church” (Greek: ekklēsia) means “assembly” or “called-out ones.” • It refers to the community of believers in Jesus Christ—not a building, not a single person, and not a denomination.

@Bck320 @EarnurHKG @0hour1 @grok Correct. Jesus was talking about Himself and the fact He is the Christ, the Son of God (which Peter just said) is what the Church was to be built on.

You can’t argue with scripture. The Rock is Christ. Not Peter. And he was never a pope. 1 Corinthians 10:4 "And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ." Paul connects this to the water from the rock in the wilderness (Exodus 17), portraying the pre-incarnate Christ as the sustaining Rock for Israel. Psalm 118:22 (quoted by Jesus and others) "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." Jesus applies this to Himself in Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10-11, and Luke 20:17. Acts 4:11 Peter declares: "This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone." Ephesians 2:20 The church is "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone." 1 Peter 2:4-8 Peter describes Jesus as "a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious," a "cornerstone chosen and precious," and for unbelievers "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." 1 Corinthians 3:11 "For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (Emphasizing Christ as the sole foundation.) Matthew 7:24-25 Jesus describes the wise person as one who hears His words and builds "his house on the rock" (implying obedience to Him as the stable foundation).

As an Australian I think the government here needs to go further and suggest to the US that any further financial damage to the citizens of Australia through US foreign policy would mean a rethink of the alliance entirely. Quite honestly Australia is better off having a security pact with China, who is our most important trading partner.

Australia just said no. Britain said no. Australia said no. America’s two closest Five Eyes allies — the countries that have followed Washington into every military engagement for 80 years — just publicly refused to join the Strait of Hormuz blockade. Australia’s statement didn’t just decline. It delivered a verdict: “The best way to get lasting peace — and to ensure petrol prices come down for Australians — is a negotiated settlement.” That is a direct rebuke of Trump’s blockade strategy from an allied government.

BREAKING: Court documents reveal that Australian government war crimes investigators do not even have the NAMES of two individuals Ben Roberts-Smith is alleged to have killed in Afghanistan almost 20 years ago. Nobody has managed to identify these alleged victims - even after $300 million was spent on war crimes investigations over five years. Australian Office of Special Investigations director Ross Barnett already revealed that investigators have: - No crime scenes - No access to the deceased - No bodies - No post-mortem report - No official cause of death - No recovery of projectiles to link to weapons that might have been carried by members of the ADF - No photographs - No site plans - No measurements - No recovery of projectiles - No blood spatter Now we know that after nearly $300 million and 5 years of investigation, they do not even have the NAMES of two alleged victims. If there is no name, no identification, no body - how do we even know they were killed? Does anybody actually think this is fair? Does anybody actually think that a criminal conviction - proved to a criminal standard, beyond reasonable doubt - is remotely possible in these circumstances? Daily Mail: ''Two of the five men Ben Roberts-Smith is accused of murdering while serving with the Special Air Service in Afghanistan have never been identified by war crimes investigators. Court documents seen by the Daily Mail show one of the Victoria Cross recipient's alleged victims is described only as 'Person Under Control 1', or alternatively 'Enemy Killed in Action 3'.''
