If I take two random people from a bivariate gaussian with a correlation of .36, the person that scores higher on X has a 61.7 percent chance to score higher on Y. You can calculate bivariate probability of superiority by doing PBS=(asin(.36)/pi)+.5 link.springer.com/article/10.375…

For people who do research, academic or otherwise: Suppose you find a correlation of 0.36. How would you characterize it?

Putting aside the outrage on this stuff for a minute. He is flat-out wrong and clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Two images explain why he should not be allowed to discuss this stuff on any platform. Wages v profits and productivity. Australian workers have never been so productive, yet they are not being rewarded for it.

In March I wrote a thread that said 2023 will be the year touring musicians show us there is no return to normal with endemic covid. Springsteen's tour has been a horror show of illness and cancelled dates. Others likewise. Thread in next tweet

Bruce Springsteen’s concert scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7 at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse has been canceled. A representative for Live Nation said the singer is being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease syracuse.com/music/2023/09/…

This is the league table of how countries are currently investing in R&D as a % of GDP. The figures continue a 14-year⬇️trend in national R&D investment for Australia. If we keep going the way we are, in 5yrs years we'll be among the lowest of all @OECD countries #Auspol2023

@PatsKarvelas @OECD @NanoJagadish @RNBreakfast The Prime Minister @AlboMP acknowledged earlier this month that real, enduring reforms that change a country for the better take time. Investing more in R&D requires us to play the long game. But we must rush to get to the starting line. science.org.au/news-and-event…

79% of psychiatrists recommend immediate treatment with an antidepressant to an outpatient with depression, but only 39% of psychiatrists would immediately take an antidepressant if they personally had depression, while 61% would prefer watchful waiting cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Someone recently asked me to talk about “the science of astrology” and I legit didn’t know what to say. I try hard not to disparage people’s worldviews but I didn’t know how to say “there is no science of astrology” without sounding like I was belittling it.

The PM has said that "everyone" earning over $45k "benefits" from the Stage 3 tax cuts. Those benefits look very different depending on your income. Those struggling get the least. Top end of town gets a feast. Add your name: theaus.in/scrapstage3tax…
