Block made 4,000 layoffs because of AI, and a lot of people will be talking about it in the coming days. But as software engineers, we shouldn’t be scared. We are here to build and design systems. AI is not the end of engineering, it’s a shift. And with every major shift, new opportunities emerge. Just like in the early days of the internet, mobile apps, and web development, the engineers who leaned in early were the ones who thrived. And this time is no different. Software engineers are among the earliest adopters and builders of AI. We are not outsiders to this wave we are at the center of it. We understand how models integrate into systems, how infrastructure scales, how data flows, and how products are shipped. That gives us leverage. This is not the time to resign from engineering. It’s the time to evolve with AI to use it, build with it, and build on top of it. We are still the builders. We are the ones who understand systems, architecture, scalability, trade-offs, and real world constraints. AI is a tool a powerful one but tools still need skilled engineers behind them. Don’t get caught up in FOMO. Keep learning. Keep building. Ship projects. Start small bets. Experiment. Launch startups. The future still belongs to those who build especially those who move early.

geçen ay bir arkadaşım aradı dedi ki abi ben işten çıkarıldım ne yapacağım bilmiyorum. adam 6 yıldır backend developer. maaşı fena değildi. ama şirket küçülmeye gitti ve ilk kesilen o oldu. neden? çünkü 3 kişilik ekibin işini artık 1 kişi cursor açıp claude bağlayıp yapabiliyor. adam bana ağladı resmen. ben de dedim ki kardeşim ağlama, otur şimdi sana bir şey göstereyim. açtık claude code u, adamın kafasında 2 aydır olan bir saas fikri vardı. müşteri takip sistemi. küçük işletmeler için. normalde bunu yapmak ne kadar sürer? veritabanı tasarımı, api, frontend, authentication, ödeme entegrasyonu derken en az 2 ay solo çalışma. belki 3. 4 gün sürdü brom. 4 gün. ilk gün veritabanı şeması ve authentication ayağa kalktı. ikinci gün dashboard ve müşteri yönetim paneli bitti. üçüncü gün stripe entegrasyonu ve bildirim sistemi. dördüncü gün test edip düzeltme yaptık. adam 5. günde producta çıkardı. şimdi adam ayda 3200 dolar recurring revenue yapıyor. işten çıkarılalı 5 hafta oldu. eski maaşından fazla kazanıyor ve kimseye bağımlı değil. patron yok. sprint toplantısı yok. jira yok. sadece o ve ai arasındaki döngü var. ama şunu söyleyeyim herkes bunu duyunca aa ben de yaparım diyor. yapamazsın. neden? çünkü vibe coding dediğin şey rastgele prompt atmak değil. adam 6 yıllık backend bilgisiyle ai ye doğru yönlendirmeyi veriyor. hangi mimariyi kullan, şurada n+1 query problemi var düzelt, burada rate limiting ekle gibi şeyleri biliyor. ai amele gibi çalışıyor evet ama sen mühendis gibi düşünmezsen amele de yanlış duvar örer. ben kendi deneyimimde de aynısını gördüm. vibe coding ile yaptığım projeler eskisinin 10da 1i kadar zaman alıyor. ama o 10da 1lik zamanda beynimin yüzde yüzünü kullanıyorum. eskiden zamanın yüzde sekseni yazma işiydi. şimdi zamanın yüzde sekseni düşünme işi. ve düşünme işini ai yapamıyor henüz. o kısım sende. şirketler bunu anladı artık. klarna ekibini küçülttü vibe coding ile. hubspot erken adapte oldu avantajını kaptı. insanlar hala ide açıp satır satır kod yazarken birileri aynı işi saatler içinde bitirip müşteriye sunuyor. bu rekabette kim kazanır sence? arkadaşım şimdi ikinci ürününü yapıyor. bu sefer 2 gün sürdü. çünkü döngüyü öğrendi. ilk seferde 4 gün süren şey ikincide 2 güne düştü. üçüncüde muhtemelen 1 güne düşecek. bu üstel bir büyüme ve sen bu trene binmezsen peron gittikçe uzaklaşıyor brom. kalk bi dene en azından. kaybedecek neyin var ki..

vibecoding'e başlayalı tam 1 sene oldu bu 1 sene içerisinde 10'a yakın proje yayınladım, 100 civarı da projeye başlamışım. bunların hepsi ya fikir aşamasında iptal ettiğim şeyler ya da kendi şahsi kullanımım için yaptığım şeyler oldu. ilk projemden kazandığım 29 dolarlık satışı unutmuyorum. o an beni 1 senedir gaz kesmeden ilerleten zehri aldım. bir ürün yaptım yazılım bilmeden, ürün çalışıyor, kullanıcı tanıttığım hizmeti alabiliyor, ben de para kazanabiliyorum. bu olay bana şunun cesaretini verdi, 29 dolar kazanabiliyorsam 1000 dolar da kazanırım, 1000 dolar kazanıyorsam 10 bin dolar da kazanırım. bunun bi sonu yok. day 1 or one day. alın bir ai aboneliği başlayın. tek büyük sermayeniz zamanınız.

I love your take on here, these are very great stuff to learn as an engineer, but i think coding is not dead yet. Coding is indeed crafting. We are as an engineers can't be satisfied by vibe coding shitty apps. Even it's vibe coded app, we need to add some sauce from our experiences, approaches, learnings, knowledge and more. We must excel in our craft in both ways, coding and hardware. We must become expert on fundamentals on these areas and with all of that, we must help our society to grow and go further. I suggest every software engineer on this platform that please create meaningful and helpful tools, products to help humans go forward.

all these "I built a mobile app in 2 days" sound like engagement farming as a dev, it’s hard to believe you can build and launch a fully working product in a weekend so I'll try it myself: 1. define the app’s scope + features, and write a design prompt with @claudeai 2. design the app with @sleekdotdesign 3. export it to @anything and iterate until it actually works what am I missing?
