It is a big shame that every tourist has to experience the event of soldiers begging at the airport checkpoint. This is the last memory someone creates about Uganda. I am ashamed each time I take a visitor to the airport. A soldier, to me, is a person of integrity and dignity, someone who commands respect. How did we turn them into beggars? Generals, I want answers!

@FGoloobaMutebi Before the genocide of '94, the 2 groups had spent many generations of mutual distrust and disrespect. That grew into mutual hatred. Hatred fanned and spawned ideologies of which one was genocide. It wasn't simply about who occupies the presidential palace but what filled hearts.

Rwanda lost a million people because the people in power then - and their supporters - were foolish enough to think that there were Rwandans who should never lead the country. Genocide against the Tutsi was their attempt to exterminate the people they wished to keep out of power.
